Key Responsibilities
- Manage the engineering delivery of cable route and utility infrastructure projects.
- Lead feasibility studies and route assessments to identify the most suitable construction methods.
- Develop engineering solutions for complex crossings using techniques such as trenching, horizontal directional drilling (HDD) and other trenchless methods.
- Coordinate project programmes, technical deliverables and engineering milestones.
- Ensure engineering designs are practical, buildable and compliant with relevant standards.
- Act as the link between design, pre-construction and construction teams.
- Review engineering designs and resolve technical issues before construction begins.
- Support the successful transition of projects from planning into delivery.
- Identify engineering risks and develop mitigation strategies.
- Provide engineering support during construction.
- Monitor site activities to ensure compliance with quality, safety and technical standards.
- Manage engineering changes and provide technical guidance to delivery teams.
- Coordinate third-party contractors and specialist suppliers.
- Liaise with clients, designers, utility companies and statutory authorities throughout the project lifecycle.
- Attend technical meetings and provide engineering updates to project stakeholders.
- Build effective working relationships with internal and external project teams.
- Support project budgets, resource planning and programme delivery.
- Monitor engineering progress and report against key milestones.
- Contribute to the management of project risks, variations and technical change.
Your Experience
You will have experience delivering civil engineering projects within the utilities or power sector and be comfortable managing technical challenges from concept through to construction.
- Civil engineering within utility infrastructure projects.
- High Voltage (HV) or Extra High Voltage (EHV) cable route engineering.
- Cable routing, feasibility studies and route optioneering.
- Complex crossings using HDD, trenchless construction, tunnelling or conventional trenching methods.
- Working with DNOs, IDNOs and other utility network operators.
- Coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams across pre-construction and delivery.
- Managing projects within NEC or similar contract environments.
- Strong understanding of health, safety, quality and environmental requirements.
