Senior Estimator

We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join a leading civil engineering and infrastructure business. This is a high-profile opportunity for a commercially astute estimating professional with a proven track record of developing competitive tender submissions that secure work and withstand rigorous commercial scrutiny.
Working as a key member of the bid team, you will lead the preparation of accurate and robust tender pricing across major infrastructure and civil engineering projects. You will collaborate closely with Bid Managers, Planners, Design Teams, Procurement, and Operations to develop winning tender strategies, manage risk and opportunity inputs, and ensure all submissions meet governance and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and coordinate competitive tender and budget pricing submissions.
- Develop detailed labour, plant, materials, subcontractor, and temporary works cost estimates.
- Undertake quantity take-offs, validation exercises, and bill of quantities reviews.
- Build and maintain accurate rate build-ups and pricing models.
- Work with Bid Managers and Planners to align estimating assumptions with project programmes and methodologies.
- Evaluate alternative construction methods and value engineering opportunities.
- Support tender risk and opportunity assessments.
- Prepare tender summaries, settlement documentation, and commercial presentations.
- Respond to post-tender queries and client clarifications.
- Participate in successful bid handovers and lessons-learned reviews.
- Ensure compliance with company governance, work-winning procedures, and commercial controls.
Candidate Requirements
Essential Experience
- Extensive estimating experience within civil engineering and construction.
- Proven ability to produce competitive tender pricing that wins business.
- Strong commercial awareness and cost-planning expertise.
- Experience pricing highways, earthworks, drainage, utilities, structures, and infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of labour, plant, materials, and subcontractor pricing methodologies.
- Experience contributing to tender risk and opportunity management.
- Knowledge of procurement processes, contract forms, and work-winning governance procedures.
- Advanced proficiency with industry-standard estimating software.
- HNC/HND, Foundation Degree, or Degree in:
- Civil Engineering
- Construction Management
- Quantity Surveying
- Construction Engineering Management
- MCIOB – Chartered Institute of Building
- MRICS – Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
- MICE – Institution of Civil Engineers
- Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors
- Salary up to £91,000 depending on experience.
