Senior EV & Diagnostic Technician, Mill Hill, NW London at Cartopia | GDK Garage, Mill Hill
Cartopia | GDK Garage · Direct employer
£55,000 – £65,000 a year
Mill Hill · Permanent
If you'd rather grab the scope than the parts catalogue, and a wiring diagram is your idea of a good read, you'll fit right in.
Cartopia is an award-winning independent garage in Mill Hill, rated 4.8 stars from over 250 Google reviews, with a dedicated EV and hybrid bay. We're known for diagnostics and fault-finding, and we want to take that side of the business to new heights. Our diagnostic tech is moving on to run their own business, so this is your chance to step into an established role and make it your own.
The role:
Be our diagnostic specialist on EVs, hybrids and everything else, using scope, wiring diagrams and live data to find the root cause.
Be the senior tech the team calls on when a fault won't give itself up.
Road test customers' vehicles.
Mentor our up-and-coming diagnostic technician: newly qualified, hungry to learn and heading for master tech.
You'll bring:
A proper auto electrician at heart: give you a dodgy earth or a CAN fault and you're happy all afternoon.
IMI Level 3 or above (or an equivalent UK-recognised qualification), with Level 4 EV/hybrid or the drive to get there.
Proven fault-finding on electrical, network and high-voltage systems.
Full UK driving licence (essential); MOT tester licence a bonus.
Excellent spoken and written English.
What you get:
A genuinely strong basic salary, no bonus games.
Mon to Fri 8am to 5:30pm, or a Mon to Thu four-day week (42.5 hours either way). No weekends, ever!
22 days' holiday plus bank holidays, your birthday and a paid volunteer (charity) day.
A fully equipped workshop, right up to EV lifts. Need a PicoScope or a specific diagnostic tool? We'll invest in it.
Funded training with Tech Topics, Cotswold Automotive, LKQ Academy, Bosch and Delphi, plus supplier days with Varta, Pagid and Schaeffler.
Private medical cover and a company pension.
A Carver electric commute vehicle for getting to and from work. It's a small commuter vehicle, not a lease car, with on-site parking.
Not at Level 4 yet? We'll get you there
Funded training is part of the job here. If you're not already Level 4 qualified, we'll put you through the IMI Level 4 EV/hybrid technician qualification with Pro Moto, and keep investing in your training well beyond that.
We're a 1TEC Auto Hub garage, Fleet Guy Certified, founding members of HEVRA and Motor Ombudsman accredited, and we live by great customer service and teamwork, from front of house to the workshop.
What your first 6 months will look like:
In your first six months, you will become our legendary go-to technician for EV/hybrid diagnostics and repairs, and all those horrendous electrical faults that all those other garages and even the main dealers bang their head against a wall over. You've become one with the scope. You've lived for the live data. You've swallowed countless wiring diagrams. Swapping parts is a swear word. And you're enough of a team player that you helped our newly qualified tech build real confidence in their diagnostics journey too.
Apply: email your CV to Nikki, Managing Director, with a few lines on the toughest fault you've ever cracked.
