Lynx Employment Services is recruiting two experienced Senior Finance Business Partners for six-month interim assignments within a local authority in Rugby.
These are not routine business partnering positions. We are looking for fully qualified accountants with recent District or Borough Council experience who are comfortable getting into the detail, challenging services and helping senior managers understand exactly what is driving their financial position.
You will work closely with Service Directors and managers, identifying issues, improving forecasting and providing the financial insight and challenge needed to support better decision-making.
## The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
- Partnering with Service Directors and senior managers across allocated service areas
- Getting underneath the numbers to understand the financial position of each service
- Identifying financial issues, risks and emerging pressures
- Establishing robust forecasting and understanding the implications of service changes
- Identifying and investigating areas of overspend
- Working with services to develop actions to address financial pressures
- Identifying potential savings and assessing their financial and operational implications
- Supporting transformation opportunities
- Undertaking full budget builds for allocated services
- Feeding into the organisation's Medium Term Financial Strategy (MTFS)
- Monthly and quarterly financial reporting
- Supporting relevant Delta returns
- Proactively horizon scanning for future financial risks and opportunities
- Guiding and developing service managers to improve their understanding of finance
- Presenting financial issues and recommendations to senior finance leadership and, where required, SLT
- Supporting wider change activity, including work associated with Local Government Reorganisation (LGR)
- ## Essential Requirements
To be considered, you must:
Be a fully qualified accountant Have recent and substantial District or Borough Council experience Have strong local government finance business partnering experience Be a hands-on finance professional who is comfortable investigating and resolving complex issues Have strong budgeting, forecasting and financial management experience Be confident challenging and influencing senior service managers Be able to turn financial information into clear, practical advice Be comfortable working in a changing environment and adding value beyond standard financial reporting Be able to work onsite in Rugby as required ## Working PatternDuring the first couple of weeks, you should expect to be onsite in Rugby for approximately four days per week. This will allow you to understand the services, meet key stakeholders and quickly get to grips with the current position.
Following this initial period, the role is expected to require approximately 2–3 days per week onsite, depending on business needs.
## The Opportunity
If you enjoy getting underneath the numbers rather than simply reporting them, this is an opportunity to make a genuine impact.
The organisation needs experienced finance professionals who can challenge, investigate, advise and improve — identifying why financial pressures are occurring and helping services determine what needs to change.
