Hours: 8.30am - 5.30pm Monday - Friday (1 day hybrid working policy)

Our client, a dynamic player in the construction based sector, is seeking a Senior Finance Officer to join their growing team. This vital role will support the Finance Director and oversee the day-to-day operations of the finance function, ensuring the department runs efficiently and effectively, managing a team of 3.

Key Responsibilities;

Finance Operations:

  • Oversee daily financial operations, including sales and purchase ledger, fixed asset register, cash management, and expense processing.
  • Manage monthly journals, including pre-payments, accruals, and payroll.
  • Ensure smooth processing of expenses in line with company policy.
  • Reconcile the finance system to guarantee accurate revenue recording.
  • Collaborate with the Sales Ledger Manager on credit control and debt collection activities.
  • Prepare timely HMRC VAT returns and other necessary regulatory submissions.

Month-End Reporting:

  • Deliver accurate month-end reports within set deadlines, maintaining data integrity.
  • Support the Finance Director in providing management information and financial insights.
  • Conduct ad-hoc financial reporting and analysis as required.

Payroll Processing:

  • Oversee the payroll process in collaboration with Human Resources, ensuring compliance with HMRC and pension obligations.
  • Prepare statutory payments and ensure timely submissions for processing.

Audit and Year-End:

  • Prepare documentation for annual audits and liaise with external auditors.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and accounting standards.

Financial Planning and Budgeting:

  • Assist in annual business planning and budget management, monitoring departmental budgets and forecasts.
  • Communicate cash flow exceptions to the Finance Director promptly.

Internal Support:

  • Serve as the finance point of contact across the organisation, fostering strong relationships and ensuring compliance with financial controls.
  • Provide training and guidance on financial processes as needed.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify and recommend improvements to finance systems and processes to drive efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director and internal teams to streamline workflows.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum study towards a recognised accountancy qualification - ACCA / CIMA - Part or Fully Qualified, 5+years of relevant experience.
  • A structured approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Experience managing a small finance team, overseeing daily operations, allocating workloads and ensuring tasks are completed accurately and within deadlines.
  • Proficient in relevant financial software and IT tools; experience with ERP/ Sage Intacct and Access Paycircle is advantageous.
  • Understanding of construction industry processes (Construction Industry Scheme) and financial legislation is a plus.
