Senior Flood Risk Engineer / Flood Risk Officer
A Scottish Local Authority is seeking an experienced Senior Flood Risk Engineer or Flood Risk Officer to play a key role in delivering its statutory flood risk management responsibilities. This is an excellent opportunity to lead on strategic flood risk planning, influence major infrastructure decisions and help shape the council's approach to flood resilience across the region.
This role would suit an experienced professional with a strong background in Scottish flood risk management who can work independently, engage confidently with key stakeholders and take ownership of complex projects from day one.

The Role
Working within the council's Flood Risk team, you will lead the delivery of key statutory responsibilities under the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009, ensuring the authority continues to meet its obligations while preparing for future flood risk management cycles.

Key responsibilities include:
·Leading the preparation and delivery of Local Flood Risk Management Plans.
·Managing the completion of current Flood Risk Management Cycle outputs while preparing for future programme delivery.
·Commissioning and managing consultant-led flood studies.
·Reviewing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and Drainage Impact Assessments (DIAs) submitted through the planning process.
·Acting as a technical consultee on planning applications relating to flood risk.
·Producing high-quality technical reports and recommendations.
·Working closely with stakeholders including SEPA, NatureScot, neighbouring authorities, developers and community representatives.
·Providing expert technical advice on flood risk management and drainage matters.
·Ensuring compliance with Scottish legislation, national guidance and local policy.

About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
·Extensive experience working within Scottish flood risk management.
·A strong understanding of the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act 2009.
·Experience preparing or contributing to Local Flood Risk Management Plans.
·Previous experience managing flood studies and external consultants.
·Experience reviewing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and Drainage Impact Assessments (DIAs).
·A background working within a Scottish Local Authority, SEPA or a specialist flood risk consultancy.
·Excellent stakeholder management and report-writing skills.
·The ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Desirable
·Incorporated Engineer (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.
·Membership of a relevant professional institution.
