Our client is seeking a Senior Fuel Cell Stack Engineer for a contract opportunity within the aerospace sector. The role will focus on LTPEM fuel cell stack programmes, systems engineering, supplier development, technical integration and the validation of hydrogen-electric propulsion systems.



Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead supplier management and development activities for LTPEM fuel cell stack programmes, ensuring timely delivery, quality and compliance with programme requirements
  • Act as the technical expert for LTPEM fuel cell stacks and provide subject matter expertise during design reviews
  • Support the development and review of stack interfaces and balance-of-plant fluid systems
  • Assist test teams in diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving fuel cell system performance issues during development and validation testing
  • Analyse test results to support assessments of stack health, performance, degradation trends and possible failure indicators
  • Own and maintain technical documentation, including requirements, interface definitions, compliance evidence and supporting design records
  • Apply systems engineering, operational analysis and functional analysis to fuel cell and electric propulsion system development


Job Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of PEM fuel cell electrochemistry, including operating principles, performance drivers and limitations
  • Knowledge of single-cell, short-stack and full-stack performance behaviour, including the relationship between performance at different stack levels
  • Experience integrating PEM fuel cell stacks into complex systems, ideally within transport, aerospace or another safety-critical environment
  • Experience analysing PEM fuel cell stack test data and identifying performance degradation and failure indicators
  • Understanding of PEM fuel cell degradation mechanisms, failure modes, durability and their impact on system operation
  • Experience developing and managing requirements for aerospace systems, hardware or similar safety-critical products
  • Strong systems engineering capability, including requirements capture, validation, decomposition and traceability
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary engineering team


Desirable Skills:

  • Experience using engineering tools such as LabVIEW, Polarion and DIAdem
  • Knowledge of ARP4754B requirements processes and aerospace development standards
  • Experience with Teamcenter PLM or similar product lifecycle management systems
  • Practical experience resolving fuel cell system integration challenges
