Hours: Monday to Friday, 7:00am-7:00pm
An experienced Senior General Foreman is required to manage the site delivery of a specialist heavy civil engineering package in Cumbria.
The initial project involves shaft construction using a caisson method. Further shaft, tunnelling and civil engineering packages are expected to follow, creating the potential for continued work beyond the initial six week programme.
Reporting to the Project Manager, the Senior General Foreman will take day to day responsibility for site operations, directly managing approximately five or six operatives working across two gangs.
There will not be an additional supervisor beneath the General Foreman. Applicants must therefore be capable of directly controlling the workforce while completing the detailed quality, safety and compliance documentation required within a highly regulated construction environment.
Senior General Foreman responsibilities
- Take day to day responsibility for site operations and construction activities.
- Manage approximately five or six operatives across two working gangs.
- Coordinate labour, plant, materials and subcontractors.
- Plan and sequence daily and short term construction activities.
- Monitor productivity, progress and site performance.
- Deliver daily briefings, toolbox talks and task specific instructions.
- Implement RAMS, permits and safe systems of work.
- Coordinate temporary works activities with the Project Manager.
- Maintain accurate quality records, inspection documentation and site paperwork.
- Ensure work is completed safely, correctly and to programme.
- Identify and resolve site delivery issues.
- Monitor workmanship and ensure compliance with project specifications.
- Coordinate with the Project Manager and commercial team.
- Support client inspections, project reporting and progress meetings.
- Assist with project completion, handover and close-out.
Essential experience
- Previous experience working as a Senior General Foreman or General Foreman within civil engineering.
- Strong heavy civils construction experience.
- Experience delivering shaft, caisson, tunnelling, deep excavation, reinforced concrete or comparable civil engineering works.
- Experience directly managing site operatives and subcontractors.
- Strong knowledge of construction sequencing and short term programming.
- Experience controlling labour, plant and materials.
- Good understanding of temporary works.
- Strong knowledge of RAMS, permits, briefings and safe systems of work.
- Ability to produce and maintain detailed quality and compliance records.
- Experience working within highly regulated or safety critical environments.
- Strong leadership, communication and problem solving skills.
- Willingness to remain hands on and directly control the workforce.
Required qualifications
Applicants should hold:
- Black CSCS Manager card.
- SMSTS.
- First Aid at Work.
- A relevant Temporary Works qualification.
Experience within nuclear, energy, utilities or other regulated infrastructure environments would be beneficial but is not essential.
Applicants must be willing to complete the required medical, drug and alcohol screening, security checks and site access process before commencing work.
This position would suit an experienced Senior General Foreman, General Foreman or Civils General Foreman with a background in heavy civil engineering, shafts, caissons, tunnelling, deep excavations or reinforced concrete structures.
