We are recruiting for an experienced Senior Goods Inwards & Subcontract Controller to join an established manufacturer within the Defence supply chain.

This is a hands-on role with responsibility for goods-in, raw material storage, subcontract movements, inventory control and waste management. You’ll work closely with Procurement, Quality and Production to maintain accurate stock, smooth material flow and high standards of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, inspect and accurately record incoming deliveries against purchase orders and delivery documentation.
• Prepare and dispatch materials to subcontractors, ensuring correct quantities and documentation.
• Track subcontract orders and ensure materials are returned within agreed timescales.
• Check the quality and quantity of subcontracted items returned before release to production.
• Maintain accurate records of subcontract activity to support traceability and audits.
• Inspect incoming goods for damage, quality and compliance with specifications.
• Maintain accurate stock records and update ERP/MRP systems.
• Organise raw materials and goods-in areas using 5S and Lean principles.
• Liaise with suppliers regarding shortages, discrepancies, damaged goods and delivery issues.
• Identify process inefficiencies and support continuous improvement, audits and KPI performance.
• Work closely with Procurement, Quality and Production to maintain effective material flow.
• Promote and maintain high standards of health, safety, security and housekeeping across the stores function.

Essential Experience & Skills

• Previous experience within a production, assembly, manufacturing or engineering environment.
• At least 1 year of warehouse or stores management experience, ideally within metalwork or engineering.
• Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence.
• Strong attention to detail when checking quantities, documentation and incoming materials.
• Good communication skills when dealing with suppliers and internal departments.
• Basic IT and numeracy skills, including recording and scanning goods-in transactions.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety and safe manual handling practices.
• Proactive approach with the ability to organise workloads and support a fast-paced stores operation.

Desirable

• Previous experience within the Defence or Railway sectors.
• Experience of Lean, 5S, inventory control, subcontract management or ERP/MRP systems.
