About the Opportunity
A leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Health & Safety Advisor to support the successful delivery of a major UK infrastructure project.
This is a key leadership role responsible for driving health, safety and wellbeing standards across complex construction activities. You will work closely with project directors, operational teams and client stakeholders to ensure compliance, promote best practice and foster a culture where everyone goes home safe every day.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and promote best practice in Health, Safety and Wellbeing across major infrastructure projects.
Provide expert HSE advice and support to Directors, Project Managers, Supervisors and operational teams.
Build strong working relationships with clients and key stakeholders.
Deliver H&S improvement programmes, campaigns and behavioural safety initiatives.
Conduct site inspections, audits and workplace surveillance to ensure legislative and company compliance.
Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing preventative actions.
Analyse H&S performance data, identify trends and develop continuous improvement plans.
Review and approve RAMS, H&S plans and contractor documentation.
Support the delivery of project inductions and workforce engagement programmes.
Mentor and support junior Health & Safety Advisors where required.
Produce reports, presentations and KPI updates for senior management.
Maintain compliance with relevant legislation, project procedures and client requirements.
Challenge unsafe behaviours and stop work where health and safety standards are compromised.
Candidate Requirements

Significant experience within a Senior Health & Safety role on major civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

Previous experience working on large-scale construction environments such as:

Tunnelling
-
Rail
-
Highways
-
Utilities
-
Heavy Civil Engineering
-
Major Infrastructure
-

Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and construction best practice.

Experience leading incident investigations, audits and compliance programmes.

Confident communicating with senior stakeholders, clients and operational teams.

Experience developing safety culture and driving behavioural change.

Commercial awareness and understanding of contractual obligations.

Excellent report writing and presentation skills.

Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook and Project.
Essential Qualifications

NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent.

Chartered or Graduate Membership of IOSH (CMIOSH/GradIOSH) or working towards.

Additional qualifications such as IEMA, CQI or relevant environmental qualifications are advantageous.

Full UK Driving Licence.
