Senior Health & Safety Manager

Location: London - Hybrid working
Salary: £70,000 – £80,000 + £7k car allowance, private Medical, Pension and discretionary bonus
Employment: Permanent, Full Time, 40hrs p/w

Bryan & Armstrong are working with a well-established engineering and infrastructure contractor to recruit an experienced Senior Health & Safety Manager to support the delivery of major projects across London.

This is a senior operational Health & Safety position, providing leadership, technical advice and assurance across complex engineering and construction environments, with a particular focus on M&E, rail and major infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will work closely with project and operational leadership teams, taking responsibility for Health & Safety performance at project level and helping to drive a positive, collaborative safety culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead Health & Safety across major engineering and infrastructure projects.

• Provide day-to-day H&S leadership, technical advice and support to project teams.

• Ensure company H&S policies, procedures and management systems are effectively implemented across projects.

• Support the continued development and improvement of the company's Health & Safety Management System.

• Ensure compliance with relevant Health & Safety legislation, standards and industry best practice.

• Conduct site inspections, audits and assurance activities, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented.

• Lead and support accident, incident and near-miss investigations and ensure lessons learned are communicated across the business.

• Monitor H&S performance and provide accurate reporting to senior operational and H&S leadership.

• Support internal and external audit programmes, including ISO 45001.

• Provide technical H&S support to Project Managers and other operational stakeholders.

• Deliver toolbox talks, safety briefings and H&S training where required.

• Coach and support employees and contractors to improve Health & Safety standards and behaviours.

• Provide H&S input at project and business meetings.

• Work collaboratively with the wider safety and operational teams to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.

• Line manage and support the development of Health & Safety Advisors.

Experience & Qualifications

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• NEBOSH Diploma, NCRQ Diploma or equivalent Health & Safety qualification.

• CertIOSH or higher professional membership.

• Strong working knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation.

• Good working knowledge of ISO 45001.

• Previous experience operating as a Health & Safety Manager or Senior Health & Safety Manager within a Tier 1 or major contractor environment.

• Strong construction and engineering Health & Safety experience.

• Previous experience within Rail, Power, Utilities, Tunnelling and/or major infrastructure projects.

• An understanding of mechanical and electrical works and associated H&S risks.

• Strong accident and incident investigation experience.

• Experience undertaking site inspections, audits and assurance activities.

• CSCS card.

• Full UK driving licence.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to influence project teams, contractors and senior stakeholders.
