Ready to put your expertise to work on a specialist fleet?
We're looking for an experienced Senior HGV Technician to take a leading, hands-on role in maintaining and repairing a busy fleet. You'll tackle complex faults, support fellow technicians and help keep vehicles safe, compliant and ready for service.
If you enjoy varied technical work and take pride in getting the job done properly, this is an opportunity to make a real impact in the workshop.

The Role

  • Carry out servicing, preventative maintenance and repairs on refuse collection vehicles, including chassis, bodies, compaction systems and bin lifts.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic faults using diagnostic equipment and technical information.
  • Complete scheduled vehicle inspections, identify defects and prepare vehicles for MOT testing.
  • Take the lead on complex repairs, providing practical guidance and technical support to technicians and apprentices.
  • Work closely with the Workshop Manager to prioritise repairs, minimise downtime and maintain fleet availability.
  • Check completed work to ensure repairs meet the required quality, safety and compliance standards.
  • Maintain accurate inspection sheets, job cards and repair records.
  • Support breakdown response and attend off-site repairs where required.
  • Follow workshop health and safety procedures, including safe isolation of specialist vehicle equipment.

What We're Looking For

  • A Level 3 qualification in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, or an equivalent recognised qualification.
  • Strong experience maintaining and repairing HGVs, ideally within the refuse, waste management or municipal vehicle sector.
  • Confident diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Experience working with refuse bodies, compaction equipment and bin lifts would be a strong advantage.
  • A sound understanding of vehicle inspection, MOT preparation and roadworthiness requirements.
  • The ability to work independently, take ownership of complex jobs and support the development of others.
  • A full UK driving licence; a Category C licence and IRTEC accreditation would be advantageous.
