Are you a skilled Civil Engineer looking to step up into a high-level overview and leadership role without getting bogged down in day-to-day cad design work?
Working alongside a leading Tier 1 highway construction client, you won't be sitting at a desk producing drawings all day. Instead, you’ll leverage your strong foundational design knowledge to lead, oversee, and drive a diverse portfolio of highway and civil engineering schemes across Cheshire East.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Senior Highway Engineer within the Design Services Team, you will act as the crucial link between design vision and delivery:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead problem-solving for complex engineering challenges, ensuring effective, compliant, and high-quality solutions across schemes valued up to £5M (including major junction upgrades, cycle improvements, and public realm projects).
- Project & Quality Oversight: Oversee project programming, planning, performance, and budgets to deliver schemes to the highest technical standards.
- Team Guidance & Deputising: Mentor junior engineers, provide technical advice, and step in as deputy to the Team Leader when needed.
- Key Stakeholder Engagement: Serve as a trusted technical advisor to internal teams, external partners, local councillors, and the public.
What We’re Looking For in a Senior Highway Engineer
You don't need to be drafting in AutoCAD daily, but a solid background in highway design principles and legislation is essential so you can confidently review, critique, and guide the work of others:
- Qualifications: HNC, HND, or Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Professional Standards: Professional membership in a relevant civil engineering body.
- Technical Knowledge: Strong grounding in highway design, highway law/procedures, and Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs).
- Industry Tools: Practical familiarity with AutoCAD and MS Office (to effectively review and oversee project files).
- Management Skills: Proven track record in managing project costs, programmes, and delivery.
- Licence: Full UK driving licence.
Why Apply?
If you are ready to transition your technical expertise into a high-visibility lead role where you shape regional infrastructure—without spending your day stuck doing CAD detailing—this is the opportunity for you.
