A growing water and environmental consultancy is looking for an experienced Senior Hydrologist to join its Manchester team. The role will involve delivering a varied portfolio of hydrology and water-sector projects, with particular exposure to water quality, storm overflows, catchment investigations and environmental assessment.
The Role
- Lead the delivery of hydrology projects from inception through to completion.
- Undertake hydrological assessments, catchment analysis and flood hydrology studies.
- Deliver and support Storm Overflow Assessment Framework (SOAF) studies and storm overflow investigations.
- Analyse rainfall, river flow, water quality and wider environmental datasets.
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, assessments and supporting documentation.
- Provide technical input into water quality, wastewater and catchment management projects.
- Undertake flood frequency analysis, rainfall-runoff assessments and climate change assessments.
- Support projects for water companies, regulators, developers and public-sector clients.
- Undertake site visits and field investigations where required.
- Liaise directly with clients, regulators and other project stakeholders.
- Manage project programmes, budgets and technical deliverables.
- Review technical work and provide mentoring and support to junior team members.
- Contribute to bids, fee proposals and business development activities.
- Work collaboratively with hydraulic modellers, water quality specialists, engineers and environmental consultants.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- A degree in Hydrology, Geography, Environmental Science, Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience within hydrology, water resources or water/environmental consultancy.
- Experience delivering or supporting SOAF studies, storm overflow investigations or wastewater-related projects.
- Strong understanding of UK hydrology and the water environment.
- Experience analysing hydrological, water quality and environmental datasets.
- Knowledge of WINEP, AMP programmes and UK water-sector regulatory requirements would be advantageous.
- Experience with hydrological, hydraulic or water-quality modelling software.
- Strong technical report writing and numerical analysis skills.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients.
- Experience managing projects and mentoring junior colleagues.
- A full UK driving licence and willingness to undertake site work.
Chartered status or working towards CIWEM, ICE or a similar professional qualification would be advantageous.
