Senior Civil Engineer - Civil Infrastructure & Drainage Design

Duration: 2-3 months
Start Date: Immediate / ASAP
Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week (8:30am - 5:00pm)
Location: Hybrid working available - ideally 3 days per week in office, remote considered for the right person
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
 
Role Overview
 
We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to provide short-term support to the civil engineering team, delivering high-quality infrastructure and drainage design solutions across live projects.
The role requires someone who can quickly integrate into an established team, understand project requirements, and deliver accurate, buildable engineering solutions within tight timescales.
 
Key Responsibilities & Duties
 
Civil Engineering Design
 
·Lead and deliver detailed civil engineering design packages for infrastructure and development projects.
·Produce technically robust designs in accordance with relevant standards, guidance, and project requirements.
·Prepare detailed drawings, design reports, specifications, calculations, and supporting technical documentation.
·Review and interpret site information, surveys, constraints, and client requirements to develop appropriate engineering solutions.
·Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and contribute to design reviews.

Drainage Design
 
·Undertake detailed drainage design for development and infrastructure schemes.
·Design and assess foul and surface water drainage systems, including sustainable drainage solutions (SuDS) where applicable.
·Use Causeway Flow to undertake hydraulic modelling, calculations, and drainage assessments.
·Review drainage strategies and develop solutions that meet regulatory and client requirements.
·Liaise with project stakeholders, statutory authorities, and other disciplines where required.
Highway & Infrastructure Design
·Support the delivery of highway and infrastructure design elements.
·Produce highway geometry, levels, and associated civil engineering details where required.
·Experience in highway design and/or levels design would be advantageous.
·Ensure coordination between drainage, highways, earthworks, and other infrastructure elements.

Essential Skills & Experience

 
The successful candidate will have:
 
·Significant experience working as a Senior Civil Engineer within a civil engineering consultancy or infrastructure design environment.
·Strong technical experience in civil infrastructure and drainage design.
·Working knowledge of Autodesk Civil 3D for producing and reviewing engineering models and drawings.
·Proficiency using Causeway Flow for drainage design and analysis.
·Strong understanding of UK drainage design principles, standards, and best practice.
·Experience delivering detailed design packages for residential, commercial, highways, or infrastructure developments.
·Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and take ownership of engineering deliverables.
·Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide practical, cost-effective engineering solutions.
·Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate technical outputs.
·Ability to communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, contractors, and stakeholders.

Software Experience Required
 
Candidates must have practical experience using:
 
Autodesk Civil 3D:

·Surface modelling
·Alignment and corridor modelling
·Levels design
·Production of detailed engineering drawings
Causeway Flow:
·Drainage network modelling
·Hydraulic calculations
·Surface water and foul drainage design
