Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer

Hybrid Software Helix is seeking a Senior Infrastructure Systems Engineer to join a small internal IT department that provides IT support to its operating companies worldwide. The successful candidate will help implement the organisation’s cloud adoption strategy and contribute to the development of processes in anticipation of ISO27001 certification. The role, therefore, requires a highly technical, technology-passionate professional with experience in maintaining and deploying infrastructure systems, server maintenance, and project work, as well as a strong working knowledge of Microsoft® Azure.
The core infrastructure within the business is a multi-site mixture of Windows (2022/2025 Servers/Active Directory). HP-based networking and next-generation firewalls. The department works with products such as vSphere, Microsoft Azure, Atlassian tools, Veeam, Microsoft 365, Intune and many more.
In addition to project-based work, as part of this role, you will be expected to deal with critical system issues as and when they occur, which may occasionally involve out-of-hours work. This role would be ideally suited for a well-rounded, knowledgeable individual who understands the complexity and challenges of modern infrastructure and has a strong grasp of Azure adoption within an enterprise.
The position reports directly to the Chief Information Officer.

Principal responsibilities
- Help deliver the company’s data centre migration goals into Microsoft Azure.
- Take ownership of core infrastructure services, including Active Directory, Microsoft 365, Azure, LAN, firewalls, backup, virtualisation and storage.
- Strengthen infrastructure security and promote best practice across the environment as part of the organisation’s ISO27001 readiness programme.
- Research, plan and implement infrastructure upgrades and replacement solutions, either independently or as part of a team.
- Administer VMware vSphere infrastructure and enterprise storage platforms.
- Respond to alerts from network and system monitoring tools to minimise downtime and service impact.
- Administer backup and disaster recovery systems, including testing, documentation and improvement of recovery processes.
- Create and maintain internal documentation, procedures, processes and technical standards.
- Handle escalated issues from the IT helpdesk relating to core infrastructure services.
- Support infrastructure requirements for development and operational tooling, including CI/CD platforms where required.
- Contribute to infrastructure planning, lifecycle management, security improvement and cloud adoption initiatives.
- Occasional travel to other Hybrid Software sites as required to support infrastructure migrations and upgrades
Essential, demonstrable experience
- Strong experience with Microsoft Azure in a hybrid enterprise environment, including identity integration, networking, virtual machines, governance and migration of on-premises services.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365, Entra ID and multi-site, multi-domain Active Directory environments.
- Strong Windows Server administration experience.
- Networking expertise, including TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS, VLANs and next-generation firewalls.
- Experience supporting secure infrastructure environments and applying infrastructure security best practices.
- Working knowledge of backup, disaster recovery and business continuity processes.
- Experience with infrastructure monitoring, troubleshooting and incident response.
- Strong scripting ability in at least one language, such as PowerShell, Python or Bash.
- Ability to create clear technical documentation, procedures and standards.
- Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify practical and creative solutions.
- High attention to detail, with the mindset to validate changes and check for expected outcomes.
- Strong aptitude for learning new technologies.
- Linux management in a corporate environment.
Desirable experience
VMware vSphere administration.
Enterprise storage administration, ideally including NetApp.
Microsoft Intune and endpoint management.
Veeam backup and replication.
MacOS management in a corporate environment.
Atlassian tools, including Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket.
CI/CD tools such as TeamCity, GitLab, Azure DevOps or similar.
Infrastructure-as-code or automation tooling.
Palo Alto, Fortinet or other next-generation firewall platforms.
Experience contributing to ISO27001, security, change management or other formal IT governance processes.
Experience working in a multi-site or international business environment.
