Senior Instrument Engineer – 12-Month Contract – South Manchester or Birmingham (Hybrid) – Pharmaceutical Projects

Our client is looking to recruit an experienced Senior Instrument Engineer to support the delivery of major pharmaceutical and biotechnology projects across the UK and Europe.

The role is based from either South Manchester or Birmingham, operating on a hybrid basis (3 days in the office and 2 days from home), with occasional travel to client sites across Europe.

The Role

As a Senior Instrument Engineer, you will be responsible for leading instrumentation design activities while working closely with Electrical, Automation and Process Engineers to deliver integrated engineering solutions for highly regulated pharmaceutical facilities.

You will be involved in:

  • Instrumentation design for pharmaceutical and biotechnology facilities
  • Preparation of instrument datasheets, specifications and schedules
  • Instrument index development and equipment selection
  • Production of hook-up drawings, loop drawings and cable schedules
  • Preparation and review of P&IDs
  • Development of I/O Lists and control philosophies
  • Supporting DCS, PLC and SCADA-based process control systems
  • Functional Design Specifications (FDS)
  • Cause & Effect matrices
  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT)
  • Commissioning, loop checking and construction support
  • Instrument location layouts and 3D model reviews
  • HAZOP, SIL and LOPA studies
  • Liaising with clients, vendors and system integrators throughout project delivery

Requirements

To be successful you should have experience with:

  • Pharmaceutical or biotechnology instrumentation design
  • Process instrumentation, including pressure, temperature, flow and level measurement
  • Preparation of P&IDs, instrument datasheets, specifications and I/O lists
  • DCS, PLC and SCADA-based control systems
  • cGMP, GAMP and ISA standards
  • AutoCAD and engineering design software
  • Process safety studies, including HAZOP, SIL and LOPA

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree qualified in Instrumentation & Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Proven experience delivering instrumentation engineering on pharmaceutical or biotechnology projects
  • Strong knowledge of process instrumentation and industrial control systems
  • Experience working across FEED, detailed design, construction support and commissioning
