Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer

Senior Linux Infrastructure Engineer
London (2 days per week onsite)
£60k-£65k
Are you an Infrastructure Engineer with a strong Linux background looking for a role where you can get involved across servers, storage and backup within a large, complex environment?
We’re looking for a seasoned Infrastructure Engineer to join an established infrastructure team, working across the platforms that underpin critical systems and services across the organisation.
This is a hands-on, traditional infrastructure role, with Linux at its core. You’ll work across server infrastructure, enterprise storage and backup, combining day-to-day operational support with some significant upcoming projects.
There’s plenty happening too. New NAS infrastructure is being introduced, alongside a major project to migrate the existing backup environment to Commvault.
What will you be doing?
You’ll help manage, support and improve a large and varied infrastructure estate, including:
- Building, patching, upgrading and supporting Linux infrastructure, particularly Red Hat environments
- Supporting and administering enterprise storage and NAS platforms
- Working with storage technologies and protocols
- Helping configure and introduce new NAS infrastructure
- Supporting a major migration from Networker to Commvault
- Managing backup, recovery, retention and monitoring processes
- Troubleshooting server, storage and backup issues
- Managing storage permissions, shared spaces and day-to-day infrastructure requests
- Getting involved in occasional data centre work when infrastructure changes require it
What are we looking for?
You might currently be working as an Infrastructure Engineer, Linux Systems Administrator, Systems Engineer or Infrastructure Platform Engineer.
We’d ideally like to see experience across some of the following:
- Strong Linux administration, ideally Red Hat/RHEL
- Linux server builds, patching, upgrades and troubleshooting
- Enterprise storage
- Storage protocols such as SMB/CIFS
- Backup and recovery technologies
- Virtual and physical server infrastructure
- Infrastructure monitoring and troubleshooting
- Working within a large or complex IT environment
You don’t need to tick every box. A strong Linux infrastructure background is the priority, with experience across storage and/or backup particularly valuable.
There is some exposure to Azure, AWS and Google Cloud across the wider environment, but cloud experience isn’t essential and training can be provided.
This is not a DevOps-focused Platform Engineer position – we’re looking for someone from a traditional server/infrastructure background.
If you’re a Linux-focused Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys getting hands-on across servers, storage and backup, and wants the opportunity to work on some significant infrastructure projects, we’d love to hear from you.
ALL Candidates must have the full right to work in the UK without any restrictions.
