Senior Marine Electronics Engineer
Unify
About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Marine Electronics Engineer to join a specialist marine electronics service team. This is a hands-on technical role with genuine leadership responsibility — you'll be conducting installations, surveys, and repairs across a variety of vessel types, mentoring junior engineers, and acting as a key point of contact for clients.
This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional who wants to take ownership of complex projects, develop client relationships, and step into a deputising role when needed.
What You'll Be Doing
- Installing, commissioning, maintaining, and repairing marine navigational and communications equipment onboard vessels and at client premises
- Conducting safety surveys of merchant vessels in line with SOLAS requirements and relevant Classification Society or MCA standards
- Leading and mentoring a team of Electronics Engineers on complex projects
- Providing technical support to customers and liaising with sales and service agents
- Preparing estimates and quotes for clients and the internal sales team
- Supporting business development — identifying and promoting relevant products and services during client interactions
- Building and maintaining client relationships alongside the Principal Engineer and Regional Sales Manager
- Deputising for the Principal Engineer in their absence, reporting directly to the Service Manager
What We're Looking For
Essential
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in an Electronics or Electrical discipline
- Proven experience in a marine electronics service environment
- In-depth knowledge of marine navigation and communications systems
- Strong track record in customer service and client-facing roles
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally as required
Desirable
- GMDSS Operator's Certificate
- Radio survey experience
- BOSIET or OLF certification
- Manufacturer training courses in navigation or communications equipment
About You
You'll be a confident communicator who can engage equally well with engineers, clients, and commercial stakeholders. You'll bring both technical depth and commercial awareness — understanding that good engineering and good business sense go hand in hand. A solid working knowledge of the UK maritime market, including key suppliers, will be a real advantage.
Working Conditions
This is a full-time role that requires regular UK and international travel. Flexibility with working hours and a willingness to undertake overtime are expected. The role combines field-based and office-based working. Requirements include:
- Use of display screen equipment
- Working at height (harness training required; annual recertification)
- Medical fitness assessment
- Potential security clearance requirement depending on project assignments
