Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer

Pertemps Specialist Talent Solutions

Job Title: Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer
Location: Basingstoke, Hampshire -
Salary: Up to £60,000
Contract: Permanent | Full-time | On-Site
Working pattern: Office-based, with travel to project sites

An established multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer to join its growing M&E team in Basingstoke.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced mechanical building services professional to take responsibility for technically demanding projects across sectors including rail, defence, nuclear, data centres, aviation, healthcare and logistics.

The business provides surveying, design and installation services, giving its engineers direct exposure to the practical delivery of their designs. You will work closely with the M&E Director, lead multidisciplinary projects and maintain direct relationships with clients, contractors and project stakeholders.

The Role
As Senior Mechanical Building Services Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and delivery of complete mechanical building services solutions, rather than specialising solely in an individual area such as ventilation or drainage.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading multidisciplinary engineering projects from initial survey and feasibility through to detailed design and delivery.
  • Producing mechanical building services designs, calculations, specifications and technical reports.
  • Designing systems such as heating, ventilation, cooling, domestic water and drainage.
  • Completing design reviews and ensuring solutions are practical, compliant and buildable.
  • Producing and reviewing drawings using AutoCAD and Revit MEP.
  • Undertaking mechanical design calculations using Hevacomp or comparable software.
  • Carrying out detailed site surveys, inspections and technical assessments.
  • Managing project programmes, contract administration and site supervision.
  • Liaising directly with clients, contractors and multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Supporting project financial control alongside the company’s directors.
  • Fulfilling Designer duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
  • Supporting business development and helping to develop long-term client relationships.
  • Ensuring work complies with current legislation, industry standards and internal quality procedures.

About You
The successful candidate will have:

  • Proven mechanical building services design experience gained within an engineering consultancy or M&E contractor.
  • Experience designing complete mechanical building services systems.
  • An HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • A relevant engineering degree would be advantageous.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and experience with Revit MEP.
  • Experience using Hevacomp or similar mechanical calculation software.
  • Knowledge of BIM requirements and project-delivery structures.
  • Strong technical report-writing and specification-writing ability.
  • The confidence to lead meetings and communicate effectively with clients, contractors and design teams.
  • A sound understanding of current building services standards and CDM Regulations.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites and occasionally work outside standard hours.

Experience within rail, defence, nuclear, data centres or aviation would be particularly advantageous, although applications are also welcomed from engineers with strong transferable building services experience.

Candidates working towards or having achieved Chartered Engineer status are encouraged to apply.

Due to the nature of some projects, you must either hold a valid Personal Track Safety certificate or be willing to obtain one. Medical and drug and alcohol screening will apply when undertaking safety-critical rail work.

Interview Process
  • MS Teams
  • Face to Face

Why Apply?
  • Join a growing multidisciplinary consultancy delivering technically complex projects.
  • Take ownership of projects rather than working within a narrowly defined design function.
  • Work directly with experienced company directors and key clients.
  • Gain exposure to projects across critical infrastructure and specialist engineering sectors.
  • Contribute throughout the full project lifecycle, from site survey to design and delivery.
  • Access genuine opportunities for continued professional development and career progression.
