Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer who wants more than just another design role? Do you have the ambition to influence engineering strategy, lead complex projects, and ultimately progress into a Chief Engineer position?

This is a rare opportunity to join a well-established manufacturer of bespoke special purpose machinery, where you'll not only deliver innovative engineering solutions but also develop the leadership, commercial and project management skills needed to become a key figure in the future of the business.

Working closely with senior leadership, you'll gain exposure to high-level decision-making, help shape engineering best practice, and play a pivotal role in the continued growth of the engineering function.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you'll be trusted to take ownership of major engineering projects while building the experience required to progress into a senior technical leadership position.

You'll be responsible for:

• Leading the design and development of bespoke special purpose machinery from concept through to manufacture and installation.
• Taking ownership of multiple projects, managing technical decisions and ensuring successful delivery.
• Producing detailed 2D and 3D CAD designs, calculations and validation activities.
• Performing stress calculations, design reviews and product testing to ensure quality, safety and performance standards are met.
• Working directly with customers to understand challenges and develop innovative engineering solutions.
• Collaborating across manufacturing, sales, quality and senior management teams to deliver business-critical projects.
• Mentoring junior engineers and helping drive a culture of continuous improvement and engineering excellence.
• Supporting the long-term development of the engineering department as part of a clear succession plan towards Chief Engineer level.

We're looking for an ambitious engineer who combines strong technical ability with the desire to grow into a leadership role.

You'll ideally have:

• Experience in Mechanical Design Engineering within special purpose machinery, heavy engineering or other complex engineered products.
• A track record of managing projects from concept through to production.
• Strong mechanical design knowledge, including engineering calculations and analysis.
• Experience using 2D and 3D CAD software.
• Excellent communication skills and confidence interacting with customers and stakeholders.
• A proactive mindset with a desire to take ownership, influence decisions and develop others.
• Ambitions to progress into a Senior Leadership or Chief Engineer position in the future.
