Job Purpose
- To support front end, installation, maintenance and life cycle business operations by offering design innovation, technical support and risk-mitigation where necessary to enhance the business offering, and de-risk mechanical engineering operations.
- De-risk projects through a clear understanding of any shortcomings in a Client, Consultant or Main Contractor
- Apply work winning strategies in line with Dalkia strategic objectives
- Support new business opportunities and ongoing business development
- Efficiency in managing and processing workload
- Assist with estimating teams on delivering lowest/true net cost on all designs/tenders/bids
- Promote work-winning within the team – discourage workload ‘assembly line' approach
- Challenge non-productive work routines and maximise order conversion ratios
- Support the GO/NO GO & Permission to Bid policies and procedures
- Design development of all aspects of mechanical and public health engineering disciplines
- Undertaking investigations and research to resolve design and technical issues, and develop new techniques to improve competitiveness of the business
- Identify and de-risk design and technical issues through review of design information, site survey of ongoing works and ongoing liaison with installation teams
- Designing, checking and approving designs for opportunities as required
- Work closely with the BD and estimating teams to assess and process new business opportunities for design development
- Maximise our work winning strategy by applying value-engineering and best design scope to increase our competitive edge
- Champion the “Design to Ops Handover” process and support operational colleagues in securing true net costs and correct product choice for margin enhancement and system performance
- Attend pre-start meetings with Commercial colleagues and Operational colleagues as required
- Support, guide and train team members in knowledge transfer and personal development
- Support post-tender design requirements as necessary for project-specific demands
- Conduct site surveys for new enquiries as may be required from time to time
- Jointly evaluate new products and technologies to ensure the business maintains technological advancements
- Manage Consultants and drive the design in a professional manner which offers value to Dalkia and our Clients

The knowledge, skills, qualifications, and experience relevant to the position are:
Essential
- CEng or IEng (or the willingness to achieve this within an agreed timeframe)
- Membership of a professional body (CIBSE, IHEEM, IET etc)
- Varied experience across the mechanical engineering disciplines, with detailed knowledge of key standards and principles
- Experience in Condition Surveys, dilapidations surveys and building services problem solving
- Knowledge of AutoCad MEP/Autodesk Revit MEP
- Understanding of calculation software such as Hevacomp/IES/Amtech
- Have a sound understanding of relevant standards including, CIBSE, SHTM/HTM, BSRIA, British Standards etc.
- MS Office suite and Outlook
- CAD / Drawing applications
- Experience in handling confidential information and communications
- Discretion and confidentiality
- Flexible work ethic and good time management
- Planning, co-ordination and organisational skills
- Deployment of tasks using own initiative
- Accuracy in numeracy
- Commercial awareness
- Conversant in the applicable industry standards and codes of practice
- Written presentation of contractors proposals and design information
- Attention to detail in reading, interpreting and understanding specifications, quotations, tenders, drawings
