The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a leading engineering consultancy supporting a major waste management and infrastructure programme within a highly regulated environment. This role offers the chance to contribute to complex, technically challenging projects while working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams on long-term frameworks.

Senior Mechanical Engineer, Mechanical Design Engineer, Mechanical Handling Engineer, Principal Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear Mechanical Engineer, Project Mechanical Engineer, Equipment Design Engineer, Plant Engineer, Mechanical Systems Engineer, or Engineering Consultant.

Your duties and responsibilities will be

  • Produce and develop mechanical design solutions for complex waste management and processing facilities.

  • Support the specification and design of lifting systems, material handling equipment and other mechanical plant used within regulated environments.

  • Contribute to the development of storage, transfer and containment systems, including tanks, vessels and associated mechanical infrastructure.

  • Prepare early-stage engineering concepts, design studies and mechanical handling strategies to support safety assessments and design reviews.

  • Provide technical input into the design of utility diversions, specialised access systems and engineered structures associated with major project delivery.

You will have the following qualifications and experience

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or possess equivalent experience.

  • Extensive post-graduate engineering experience gained within a highly regulated sector such as nuclear, defence, pharmaceutical, aerospace or energy.

  • Strong background in the design and development of mechanical equipment, bespoke engineered systems or complex mechanical mechanisms.

  • Good understanding of engineering governance, quality requirements, safety standards and regulatory compliance obligations.

  • Commercially aware, self-motivated and capable of delivering high-quality engineering solutions within programme and budget constraints.
