Senior Network Engineer / Architect
Location: Ellesmere Port, Cheshire (On-site, 5 days per week)
Rate: £280 per day (Outside IR35)
Contract: Initial 10 weeks (high potential for extension)
Start Date: Within 2 weeks of final interview
About the Role
Aatom Recruitment is partnering with a leading technology organisation that supports enterprises in accelerating digital transformation through innovative IT services, data engineering, and advanced technology solutions.
Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Network Engineer / Architect to join a high-performing team. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled professional with a strong background in enterprise networking, architecture, and security to make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain robust LAN/WAN and enterprise network infrastructures
- Recommend and deploy network hardware including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points
- Develop and implement network monitoring and performance optimisation solutions
- Align network architecture with business and IT strategy
- Design and integrate VoIP and telecommunications systems
- Lead on network upgrades, enhancements, and continuous improvements
- Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure high availability
- Mentor and support junior team members
- Evaluate emerging technologies to improve performance, security, and scalability
Key Skills & Experience
- Strong experience in network design and architecture (LAN/WAN, Data Centre)
- Expertise in VPN technologies, IPSec/SSL, and secure network design
- Proven experience with cloud networking environments (AWS/Azure)
- Hands-on experience with security technologies (e.g. Firewalls, DDoS protection, WAF, Proxy, NAC)
- Strong knowledge of routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP, STP, multicast)
- Experience with network hardware including:
- Fortinet firewalls
- Juniper routers & switches
- Cisco networking technologies
- Solid troubleshooting skills across complex IP networks
- Understanding of overlay/underlay network design
- Experience with network monitoring and performance tuning tools
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Qualifications
- Relevant certifications such as CCNA, CCNP (or equivalent) are highly desirable
- 8–15 years’ experience in network engineering / data centre environments
Interview Process
- Minimum of 3 interview stages
- Conducted remotely (online)
