About the Role

We are recruiting for a Senior Operations Technician to join a Power Generation Facility.

This is a senior hands-on role responsible for supporting the safe, efficient and compliant operation of the plant, ensuring high levels of availability, performance, and environmental compliance.

You will play a key role in plant operations, fault finding and mentoring junior team members within a 24/7 process environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the safe and efficient operation of the Power Generation Facility.
  • Operate and monitor plant systems using DCS/SCADA
  • Ensure compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) standards and Environmental Permit
  • Respond to plant faults, alarms, and carry out first-line fault diagnosis
  • Assist with start-up, shutdown, and emergency operations
  • Monitor and adjust plant performance to optimise efficiency and output
  • Apply and support Safe Systems of Work (permits, RAMS, risk assessments)
  • Assist with plant isolation for maintenance activities
  • Contribute to incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis
  • Participate in daily planning and coordination of operations and maintenance
  • Provide guidance and support to junior operators/technicians
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping and operational discipline
  • Contribute to continuous improvement and plant optimisation initiatives

Skills & Experience

  • Recognised engineering qualification or apprenticeship
  • Experience in an EfW, Biomass, Power Generation, or heavy process environment
  • Working knowledge of DCS / SCADA systems
  • Understanding of boilers, steam systems, and combustion processes
  • Knowledge of Safe Systems of Work / permit systems
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems (LV/HV) (advantageous)
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Good IT skills (Word, Excel) for reporting
  • Ability to work effectively within a shift team
