Job Title: Senior People Advisor

Location: Head Office, Newcastle under Lyme

Salary:  £35K - £40K DOE

Hours: 37.5 hours per week

Role Overview

As a trusted, hands-on partner to the business, the Senior People Advisor guides and enables line managers to make fair and effective decisions that align with the operational priorities.  They work confidently across the full employee lifecycle ensuring adherence to employment law while fostering a positive and engaged workplace culture that drives business performance.

The Job Role

  • Provide proactive HR guidance to managers on a wide range of people matters, including performance, absence management, conduct, and other employee relations cases.
  • Partner with key stakeholders to anticipate workforce needs and support effective planning, engagement and retention strategies.
  • Translate HR policies into practical, commercially sensible advice that supports business outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with employment legislation and internal policies while maintaining a pragmatic approach. 
  • Carry out formal disciplinary and grievance hearings, ensuring fair, timely, and consistent outcomes.
  • Support organisational change activities, including restructures, consultations, and communications.
  • Analyse people data and trends to identify risks, opportunities, and improvement areas.
  • Provide advice and support to coach and upskill line managers to build confidence and capability in people management.

Skills & Experience

  • A pragmatic mindset, with the ability to anticipate and act on issues before they escalate.
  • Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to guide and influence at all levels.
  • Confident handling sensitive and difficult conversations in a calm and respectful manner.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a People/HR Advisory or generalist role (CIPD Level 3 qualification preferable, not essential).
  • Strong knowledge of employment law guidelines and ACAS best practices.
  • Experience of managing formal disciplinary and grievance matters, capability issues, performance, absence management, conduct, and other employee relations cases.
  • Understanding of GDPR regulations.
