Senior Piping Designer in Ellesmere Port Town

We are recruiting on behalf of an established engineering and design business for an experienced Lead / Senior Piping Designer to join their growing team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced piping designer with a strong background in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or Power projects who is looking to take a lead role while remaining hands-on with technical design work.

The Role

As Lead / Senior Piping Designer, you will be responsible for producing and coordinating high-quality piping design deliverables while providing day-to-day leadership and technical guidance to a small team of designers.

You will work closely with Design Managers, engineers, clients and vendors to ensure projects are delivered to the required technical, safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate a small team of piping designers, allocating workloads and monitoring progress against project programmes.
• Produce and coordinate 3D models, general arrangement drawings, isometrics and pipe support details.
• Develop and maintain Autodesk Plant 3D models, piping specifications and catalogues.
• Produce piping layouts and equipment arrangements with consideration for safety, operability, maintenance access and constructability.
• Check drawings, models and isometrics produced by other designers and resolve technical issues prior to issue.
• Support design and model reviews, including clash detection and close-out of review comments.
• Work closely with process, stress, civil/structural and E&I engineers to resolve design queries and coordinate projects.
• Prepare material take-offs and bills of materials and support procurement with material selection.
• Undertake site surveys and provide technical support during construction and installation.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and intermediate designers.
• Report project progress, risks and design changes to the Design Manager.

About You

The successful candidate will have:

• 7+ years' experience in piping design, ideally within Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or Power projects.
• Previous experience in a Senior or Lead Piping Designer position.
• Strong practical knowledge of piping systems, materials and construction methods.
• Expert-level experience using Autodesk Plant 3D and AutoCAD, including isometric production and specification/catalogue setup.
• Experience leading or supervising designers on live projects.
• Good knowledge of relevant industry standards and codes, including ASME B31.3, ASME B16 and EN 13480.
• Strong understanding of pipe supports, valves, fittings and piping materials.
• Experience conducting site surveys and supporting construction activities.
• Excellent communication, coordination and problem-solving skills.
• The ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while meeting deadlines.
• A hands-on, proactive approach and the confidence to lead by example.

Experience with laser scanning / point-cloud data, Navisworks or similar software would be advantageous.

An HNC/HND or equivalent engineering qualification would also be beneficial.
