Senior Principal Designer
Location: Leeds City Centre
Salary: Up to £60,000, depending on experience
Employment type: Permanent, full-time
An established construction consultancy is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Principal Designer to join its Leeds city centre team.
The role will involve managing a portfolio of Principal Designer commissions, advising clients and design teams, and supporting the delivery of projects across a range of sectors.
The successful candidate will have solid experience working under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. Experience acting as Principal Designer under the Building Regulations would be highly advantageous.
The role
- Acting as Principal Designer under CDM 2015
- Advising clients, designers and contractors on their duties
- Managing design risk through the pre-construction phase
- Reviewing design information and identifying foreseeable risks
- Preparing and reviewing pre-construction information
- Supporting the preparation of health and safety files
- Attending client, design-team and project meetings
- Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors and wider project teams
- Managing several live commissions at different stages
- Maintaining accurate project records and compliance documentation
- Supporting junior members of the team
- Assisting with fee proposals and client enquiries
- Supporting Building Regulations Principal Designer commissions where appropriate
The successful candidate
You will ideally have:
- Experience delivering Principal Designer or CDM consultancy services
- Strong knowledge of CDM 2015
- Experience working within a construction consultancy, design practice or similar environment
- The ability to manage projects independently
- Confidence advising clients and project teams
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A relevant construction, design, building or health and safety qualification
- Membership of a relevant professional body
- Experience under the Building Safety Act and Building Regulations Principal Designer regime would be advantageous
- A commercial and client-focused approach

The position is based in Leeds city centre, and regular office attendance will be required. Some flexibility may be available, but applicants must be within a realistic commuting distance of Leeds.
