The Opportunity

An established, employee-owned international engineering consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior or Principal Highway & Infrastructure Design Engineer to join its growing team in Manchester.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced highway engineer to take a leading role within a highly respected transport and infrastructure group, delivering highways, drainage and infrastructure schemes across a varied portfolio of complex projects.

You'll work within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment alongside transport planners, engineers and designers, with the opportunity to take ownership of projects, lead technical delivery and contribute to the continued growth of the Manchester team.



The Role

You will take a leading role in the design and delivery of highway and infrastructure projects, from concept and feasibility through to detailed design and technical approval.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the delivery of highway, drainage and infrastructure design packages
  • Managing projects and technical workstreams through the approval process
  • Delivering Section 278 and Section 38 highway schemes, with knowledge of Section 104 and 106 agreements
  • Producing and reviewing detailed designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Applying relevant standards including DMRB, Manual for Streets and drainage guidance
  • Reviewing technical drawings, reports and design information
  • Liaising directly with clients, local authorities and wider project teams
  • Managing project programmes, resources and technical deliverables
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to engineers and technicians
  • Supporting the development of the wider team and contributing to business growth
  • Taking responsibility for the quality and technical delivery of your projects


What We're Looking For

  • Strong UK consultancy experience within highways and infrastructure design
  • Proven experience delivering highway schemes through design and technical approval
  • Strong knowledge of highway design, drainage and infrastructure
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Good understanding of DMRB, Manual for Streets and relevant UK design standards
  • Experience working on S278/S38 schemes
  • Strong project management and client-facing experience
  • Ability to lead technical work and support the development of more junior engineers
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering or a related discipline
  • Chartered or working towards Chartership with ICE, CIHT or an equivalent professional body
