Job Title: Senior/Principal Town Planner
Location: London

Penguin Recruitment is delighted to be supporting a leading multidisciplinary consultancy in their search for an experienced Senior or Principal Town Planner to join their successful and progressive London team.

With a strong pipeline of recent project wins, this is an excellent opportunity to join a highly regarded consultancy working at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure and development. The business operates across a diverse range of sectors, providing planners with the opportunity to work on some of the UK's most exciting and technically complex projects.

The Role

As a Senior/Principal Town Planner, you will play a key role in delivering a diverse portfolio of planning and infrastructure projects. You will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, develop client relationships and support the continued growth of the planning team.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as Planning Lead or supporting the Planning Lead on a range of projects.
  • Working across sectors including renewable energy, water, transportation, nuclear, buildings and places, and spatial planning.
  • Taking responsibility for project management, planning delivery and client outputs.
  • Acting as lead consultant on multidisciplinary projects where appropriate.
  • Supporting the preparation of bids, tender submissions and framework responses.
  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and supporting business development opportunities.
  • Working collaboratively with environmental, engineering, architecture and design specialists across the wider business.
  • Providing guidance, mentoring and support to junior members of the planning team.
  • Preparing high-quality planning reports, submissions and technical documentation.
  • Presenting planning advice and project updates to clients and stakeholders.

About You

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • Chartered status or be actively working towards MRTPI.
  • Strong experience within planning consultancy, infrastructure or a related environment.
  • Experience working with TCPA, DCO, TWAO or equivalent consenting processes.
  • A good understanding of strategic planning and planning policy.
  • Experience delivering planning projects and managing multiple assignments to deadlines and budgets.
  • Knowledge of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process would be advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The confidence to provide planning advice and engage with clients and stakeholders.
  • The ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams while also managing your own workload.
  • A proactive, commercially aware and client-focused approach.
  • A genuine interest in working across a broad range of planning, consenting and strategic planning projects.
