Talentmark is partnering with a biotech start-up developing next-generation gene therapies for severe genetic diseases. With a highly collaborative scientific team and innovative platform technologies, the company is advancing cutting-edge preclinical programmes focused on delivering transformative therapies to patients with high unmet need.

As the company continues to expand its translational research capabilities, they are seeking a Senior / Principal Scientist – Ex Vivo Perfusion to establish and lead a human organ normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) programme. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in developing a cutting-edge ex vivo platform, generating critical data that will support the advancement of novel gene therapy programmes.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and execution of human and large animal organ perfusion studies.
  • Develop and optimise normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) protocols.
  • Manage organ preparation, cannulation, perfusion, sampling and data generation.
  • Collaborate closely with internal scientists and external clinical partners.
  • Design experimental strategies and interpret translational research data.
  • Build relationships with organ procurement and clinical stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior scientists as the programme grows.
Your Background
  • PhD researchers experienced in working with primary patient samples or donor organs
  • Experience working with primary human tissues or organs in a research setting.
  • Biomedical engineers with interest in cutting edge drug delivery systems
  • The flexibility to support studies involving donor organs, including occasional work outside standard office hours.
  • A collaborative approach and passion for translating scientific discoveries into therapies for patients.
  • Surgical or surgical-adjacent skills, such as vascular cannulation and back-table organ preparation, acquired through clinical practice, veterinary practice, or in vivo animal research
Experience with normothermic machine perfusion (NMP), vascular cannulation, organ preparation or ex vivo organ research would be highly advantageous, although training can be provided for candidates with relevant transferable expertise.

Applications are welcomed from candidates with backgrounds including:
  • Organ perfusion research
  • Surgery or surgical research
