Senior Quantity Surveyor - Contract
Contract: Inside IR35
Location: London
Working Pattern: Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week in the office/site, with 2 days working from home
The Opportunity
We are currently looking for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a major infrastructure works
This is a contractor-side commercial role, so candidates must have previous experience working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor. Client-side QS or commercial backgrounds will not be suitable for this position.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in civil engineering and/or rail infrastructure, with proven experience managing subcontractor accounts and working with NEC contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer NEC contracts in line with contractual and project requirements.
- Manage subcontractor accounts, including valuations, applications for payment, variations, compensation events and final accounts.
- Monitor project costs, expenditure and forecasts, identifying commercial risks and opportunities.
- Prepare and maintain accurate monthly commercial reports.
- Review subcontractor applications and supporting documentation.
- Support the preparation, negotiation and agreement of subcontractor final accounts.
- Identify commercial risks and opportunities and ensure these are communicated to the wider project team.
- Work closely with Project Managers, Site Managers, Engineers, Planners and other members of the commercial team.
- Provide commercial advice and support to the project delivery team.
- Assist with forecasting, cost control and cash-flow management.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure contractual notices and documentation are issued appropriately.
- Build and maintain effective working relationships with subcontractors and project stakeholders.
- Contribute to the overall commercial strategy and successful delivery of the project.
Essential Experience
- Minimum 3 years' experience working at Senior Quantity Surveyor level.
- Strong background working for a Tier 1 or Tier 2 main contractor.
- NEC contract experience is essential.
- Proven experience managing subcontractor accounts and packages.
- Experience within major infrastructure projects.
- Background in civil engineering and/or rail infrastructure.
- Strong commercial reporting, forecasting and cost-control experience.
- Experience managing variations, change, compensation events and final accounts.
- Strong understanding of commercial and contractual processes.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work independently while also operating effectively within a wider project team.
- CSCS White Card or relevant equivalent.
- Experience working on major rail or civils infrastructure schemes.
- Experience managing complex subcontract packages.
- Strong NEC commercial and contractual knowledge.
- Experience working within large, multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience of working in a major tunnel or underground infrastructure environment.
Qualifications & Site Requirements
- Relevant Quantity Surveying/commercial qualification or equivalent experience.
- CSCS White Card required.
- Candidates who do not currently hold the required CSCS card may be able to apply through the MAP Test route, subject to the relevant requirements.
- Relevant health & safety training is desirable.
