The Opportunity
Are you a commercially driven Quantity Surveyor looking for the opportunity to take greater ownership of your projects, develop your career and work on major infrastructure that directly impacts millions of people?
We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a water and wastewater capital delivery team working across South London.
You will become part of a major programme of investment focused on maintaining, improving and upgrading essential water infrastructure. The projects you support will play an important role in improving network resilience, protecting the environment and ensuring critical infrastructure remains fit for the future.
This is an opportunity to take responsibility for the commercial performance of multiple projects, working closely with operational teams, subcontractors, procurement and finance while continuing to develop your wider commercial and contractual experience.
What Will You Be Doing?
As Quantity Surveyor, you will support the effective commercial management of a portfolio of water infrastructure projects from delivery through to final account.
Your responsibilities will include:
·Preparing accurate, contract-compliant valuations and applications for payment.
·Monitoring certifications, payments and cash receipts across your projects.
·Managing contractual notices, correspondence and supporting commercial documentation.
·Supporting the management of compensation events, variations and contractual change.
·Reviewing valuations and ensuring commercial submissions are accurate, timely and appropriately evidenced.
·Resolving valuation queries, disputes and areas of contractual non-compliance.
·Working closely with Project Managers and operational teams to provide commercial advice throughout project delivery.
·Monitoring project costs, contract value and overall commercial performance.
·Validating financial and cost information to ensure accurate project reporting.
·Maintaining project accruals and supporting margin and profitability improvement.
·Preparing and maintaining Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR) reports.
·Producing cashflow, cost, value and revenue forecasts.
·Identifying commercial risks and opportunities and ensuring these are appropriately recorded and managed.
·Supporting cost planning and forecasting activities.
·Managing subcontractor accounts and supporting subcontract administration.
·Reviewing subcontractor applications, variations and payments.
·Developing positive working relationships with subcontractors and supply chain partners.
·Supporting procurement and supply chain activities throughout the lifecycle of projects.
·Maintaining accurate commercial records, registers and supporting documentation.
·Monitoring KPI and SLA performance where applicable.
·Providing commercial insight into project performance, emerging risks and opportunities.
·Supporting and providing guidance to junior members of the commercial team.
·Working collaboratively across operational, finance, procurement and commercial functions.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with a strong commercial mindset who can take ownership of their workload and build effective relationships across both project and commercial teams.
Ideally, you will have:
·Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, civil engineering, utilities or infrastructure.
·Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost and value management.
·Working knowledge of NEC3 and/or NEC4 contracts.
·Experience preparing valuations and applications for payment.
·Knowledge of variations, compensation events and contract administration.
·Experience with project cost reporting, forecasting and CVRs.
·Strong numerical, analytical and financial management skills.
·Experience managing subcontractor accounts and working with supply chain partners.
·The ability to identify and escalate commercial risks and issues.
·Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage several projects and competing deadlines.
·Good communication and relationship-building skills.
·Confidence working alongside operational, finance, procurement and project teams.
·Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience using commercial management systems.
·A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
Professional membership with RICS or CICES, or currently working towards accreditation, would be advantageous.
Previous experience within the water, wastewater or utilities sector would also be beneficial, although candidates from wider infrastructure and civil engineering backgrounds will be considered.
