Senior Quantity Surveyor – Energy & Infrastructure The Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a growing business delivering major infrastructure projects across the UK's expanding energy and utilities sector.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to work on a varied portfolio of projects across the energy transition, including electricity transmission and distribution, renewable energy, EV infrastructure, battery storage, solar and wider civil engineering programmes.

Working closely with the Commercial Manager and wider project delivery team, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of projects from tender and procurement through to completion and final account.

The role would suit a Senior Quantity Surveyor who is looking for a long-term opportunity within a growing business, with strong exposure to major infrastructure projects and opportunities for continued career development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take responsibility for the commercial performance of projects and frameworks.

  • Prepare pricing schedules and support tender submissions.

  • Produce accurate cost forecasts, valuations and commercial reports.

  • Monitor project performance against budgets, forecasts and agreed commercial targets.

  • Manage contracts, variations, compensation events and change control.

  • Prepare, submit and negotiate applications, claims and final accounts.

  • Manage subcontractor procurement, payments and commercial performance.

  • Identify, manage and mitigate commercial risks throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Provide commercial advice and support to project delivery teams.

  • Lead commercial discussions with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and other stakeholders.

  • Maintain accurate cost control, reporting and forecasting processes.

  • Ensure contractual and commercial governance requirements are met.

  • Support and mentor junior members of the commercial team.

  • Identify opportunities to improve project performance and maximise value.

  • Work across multiple projects and framework agreements where required.

Experience Required

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management or a related discipline.

  • Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor.

  • Experience within the energy, utilities, power, infrastructure or civil engineering sectors.

  • Strong knowledge of commercial and contract management principles.

  • Experience working with NEC, JCT, ICE or bespoke forms of contract.

  • Good understanding of construction contracts and commercial law.

  • Experience managing multiple projects or framework contracts.

  • Strong financial and analytical skills with excellent commercial awareness.

  • Confident negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

  • Ability to work independently while supporting project and commercial teams.

Desirable Experience

Experience in one or more of the following would be advantageous:

  • Electricity transmission and distribution.

  • DNO or transmission operator projects.

  • Renewable energy infrastructure.

  • Solar projects.

  • Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

  • EV charging infrastructure.

  • Utilities frameworks.

  • Regulated infrastructure environments.

  • Membership of RICS or working towards chartership.
