Roles & Responsibilities

  • Support the Commercial Director in delivering commercial governance, reporting, and risk management across UK and international operations.
  • Review high-risk contract terms, payment schedules, liquidated damages, bonds, warranties, scope exclusions, and other commercial obligations.
  • Ensure contract review procedures, approval processes, and document control standards are consistently followed.
  • Provide commercial guidance and support to Quantity Surveyors, Contracts Managers, Site Managers, and Operational teams.
  • Lead or support negotiations for major applications, final accounts, client disputes, and commercial settlements.
  • Develop commercial strategies for complex projects, including claims, risk mitigation, and negotiation planning.
  • Attend client meetings and support senior commercial discussions where required.
  • Capture lessons learned from challenging projects to improve future tendering and operational performance.
  • Review and challenge CVRs, WIP, revenue forecasts, budgets, and commercial reporting across multiple business regions.
  • Prepare executive and board-level commercial reporting packs, including financial analysis, risk summaries, forecasts, and supporting commentary.
  • Monitor forecast movement, aged WIP, margin erosion, and commercial risks while implementing recovery actions.
  • Work closely with Finance to improve forecasting accuracy, cash flow visibility, and commercial controls.
  • Mentor and develop Quantity Surveyors and commercial support staff, promoting consistency and commercial best practice.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing development of the Commercial team.
  • Provide commercial leadership and cover for regional teams where required.
  • Assist with commercial due diligence and integration activities relating to acquisitions.
  • Promote consistent commercial standards across UK and international operations while recognising local market requirements.

Qualifications

  • Significant Commercial Management or Senior Quantity Surveying experience within construction, scaffolding, access, specialist contracting, or a similar project-based environment.
  • Strong knowledge of contracts, applications, valuations, variations, payment notices, final accounts, and commercial dispute resolution.
  • Experience managing, mentoring, or leading commercial teams.
  • Ability to prepare executive and board-level commercial reports with meaningful financial analysis and recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of CVRs, WIP, forecasting, budgets, margin analysis, and cash management.
  • Experience reviewing NEC, JCT, and bespoke subcontract contracts; international commercial experience is advantageous.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Microsoft 365 skills.
  • Experience with Eque2, Power BI, or CRM systems is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel regularly across the UK, Ireland, Europe, and international operations.
