Senior Quantity Surveyor

Our client, a leading provider of facilities services in the UK, is seeking a Senior Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for the end-to-end commercial management of capital projects across the Northern and Scotland region.

This role will manage approximately 5 to 6 projects concurrently, covering a broad range of works including kitchen refurbishments, floor refurbishments, asset replacements, M&E works and other capital improvement projects.

The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering projects within a substantial capital programme, ensuring strong commercial performance, governance compliance and successful project outcomes. The role requires a commercially focused professional who can build strong client relationships, negotiate effectively and work collaboratively with project teams, suppliers and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the commercial aspects of projects from concept, design and approval stages through to delivery, final account and closeout.
• Monitor project costs, valuations, forecasts and cost versus revenue performance.
• Provide advice on procurement strategies and building costs.
• Prepare tender documentation, manage tender processes and make recommendations on contractor selection.
• Administer and manage construction contracts, including JCT and NEC forms of contract.
• Manage supplier and subcontractor relationships, including negotiations and value delivery throughout the contract lifecycle.
• Ensure projects comply with internal and client governance processes and obtain all required approvals.
• Produce commercial reports and present financial performance and project positions to clients and internal stakeholders.

Person Specification

• Strong Quantity Surveying experience.
• Strong knowledge of estimating, valuations, cost management and final accounts.
• Proven commercial management experience within live operational environments.
• Experience managing the commercial aspects of construction, refurbishment, asset replacement or capital projects.
• Knowledge of construction contracts, ideally JCT, although NEC experience will also be considered.
• Procurement experience, including preparation of Invitations to Tender (ITT), tender evaluation and supplier recommendation.
• Experience managing project costs, reporting cost versus revenue and identifying commercial savings opportunities.
• Strong stakeholder and client management skills with the ability to negotiate effectively while maintaining positive relationships.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to work collaboratively with project teams, clients and contractors.
• Experience managing or contributing to projects valued at approximately £10m+, either with overall responsibility or responsibility for significant work packages.
• Understanding of procurement, supplier management and commercial reporting.
