We are currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join a highly respected specialist construction contractor delivering complex projects across the nuclear, industrial, infrastructure and commercial sectors.
The business has established an excellent reputation for delivering technically demanding construction, engineering and fit out projects within highly regulated environments. Working in partnership with major clients, they provide complete project delivery solutions from pre-construction through to final account, with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, innovation and collaborative working. Due to a significant pipeline of secured work at Hinkley Point, they are looking to appoint a commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to join their expanding commercial team.
The Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor who is capable of taking full commercial ownership of a project valued in excess of £10 million.
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of a major construction package from procurement through to final account. You will work closely with the Project Manager, Site Management team, Engineers and the client to ensure the project is delivered safely, profitably and in accordance with contractual obligations.
This role requires someone with a strong construction background who understands both the commercial and operational aspects of delivering complex projects. You will be expected to work independently, making key commercial decisions while providing accurate financial reporting and ensuring robust cost control throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Take full commercial responsibility for a project valued at £10 million+.
Manage all contractual and commercial aspects from project commencement through to final account.
Prepare, negotiate and administer subcontract packages.
Lead the procurement process, including tender analysis and subcontractor appointments.
Manage subcontractor accounts, applications, valuations, variations and final accounts.
Prepare and submit client applications for payment.
Identify, price and negotiate variations and compensation events.
Produce monthly CVRs, cost reports, forecasts and cash flow projections.
Monitor project budgets and implement effective cost control measures.
Identify commercial risks and opportunities and provide mitigation strategies.
Work closely with operational teams to maximise project performance and profitability.
Attend client meetings, commercial reviews and progress meetings.
Provide commercial advice and support to Project Managers and senior leadership.
Ensure compliance with contractual obligations, company procedures and project requirements.
Maintain accurate commercial records and documentation throughout the project.
Support and mentor junior commercial staff where required.
Requirements
Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor delivering major construction projects.
Experience independently managing projects valued in excess of £10 million.
Strong understanding of commercial management from procurement through to final account.
Excellent knowledge of NEC contracts is highly desirable, although experience with other forms of contract will also be considered.
Previous experience working within construction, industrial, infrastructure or highly regulated sectors would be advantageous.
Excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Commercially focused with strong financial awareness and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with operational teams.
Experience managing client relationships and leading commercial meetings.
Qualifications
Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related construction discipline.
Full UK Driving Licence.
Hinkley Point security clearance would be advantageous, although candidates willing to undergo the clearance process will also be considered.
