Senior Quantity Surveyor
Vertical Recruitment Limited
We’re supporting an established multidisciplinary construction consultancy as they look to strengthen their North West Cost Management team with the appointment of a Senior Quantity Surveyor.
The role sits within an established programme of work for a major corporate client with a significant and continually evolving property portfolio.
Rather than being tied to one large development, you’ll work across a variety of projects at different stages of delivery. The programme includes new build, refurbishment, retrofit and fit-out, providing a good balance of pre- and post-contract experience and plenty of variety day to day.
It’s a strong opportunity for a Senior QS who wants greater project ownership, regular client interaction and a varied pipeline of work, while joining a consultancy where there is genuine scope to progress.
The Projects
The initial workload has a strong industrial, commercial and operational property focus.
Projects vary considerably depending on the requirements of individual sites and can include:
- New build developments
- Refurbishment and modernisation
- Fit-out and internal reconfiguration
- Retrofit and asset improvement
- Extensions and alterations
- Upgrades to existing operational buildings
- Multi-site programmes across the UK
A key attraction is the variety.
You'll typically have several commissions moving simultaneously, meaning your workload could take you from early cost planning and procurement through to live project commercial management and final account.
It also provides the opportunity to build a strong relationship with a repeat client and develop a detailed understanding of their portfolio, rather than starting from scratch with every new commission.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you'll have responsibility for your own projects while working closely with experienced senior colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team.
Your role will include:
- Managing projects from feasibility through to completion
- Preparing estimates, budgets and cost plans
- Advising on procurement and commercial strategy
- Managing tender processes and contractor analysis
- Monitoring project expenditure, forecasting and change
- Managing valuations, variations and final accounts
- Identifying and managing commercial risk
- Producing cost and commercial reporting
- Working directly with clients, contractors and consultant teams
- Managing multiple commissions at different stages
- Developing relationships across an established client account
- Supporting junior members of the Cost Management team
There is a good level of autonomy attached to the position. They’re looking for someone who can take ownership of commissions, build strong client relationships and manage projects with confidence, rather than simply providing support to the senior team.
About You
You’ll ideally have a solid background within consultancy Quantity Surveying and be comfortable across both pre- and post-contract delivery.
Experience across industrial, commercial, logistics, refurbishment or fit-out projects would be useful, although they are open to strong consultancy experience from other sectors.
You'll need to be commercially aware, confident dealing directly with clients and comfortable managing several priorities at once.
The Business
The wider business is an established multidisciplinary construction consultancy with a long track record in the industry and a presence across the UK and internationally.
The North West office has a collaborative feel, with good access to senior colleagues and strong links between teams and regional offices.
There is also a refreshing approach to career development. Progression is based on capability, contribution and the level of responsibility you're able to take on, rather than simply waiting for the next promotion cycle.
For someone joining at Senior QS level, there is scope to develop towards larger commissions, greater client responsibility and more senior positions as the team continues to grow.
What's On Offer
- An established and varied pipeline of work
- A mix of new build, refurbishment, retrofit and fit-out
- Multiple commissions at different stages of delivery
- Strong repeat-client exposure
- Genuine ownership of your own projects
- Direct client contact
- Hybrid working, Mondays and Fridays WFH
- Support towards MRICS and continued professional development
- Collaborative multidisciplinary environment
- Clear scope for further progression
It’s a good opportunity for a Senior QS who wants variety and responsibility without becoming lost within a large corporate structure, with the backing and project pipeline of an established consultancy.
