Contract Type: Temporary / Contract
Duration: 28 September 2026 - 18 December 2026
Hours: 45 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 08:00 - 17:00)
Rate: £450 - £500 per day
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to act as the Commercial Lead on a major substation infrastructure project based at National Grid's Melksham site. This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused professional with significant experience in the energy, utilities, power, or infrastructure sectors.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading all commercial activities across the project lifecycle, ensuring robust cost management, contract administration, risk mitigation, and commercial governance in line with project objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the commercial management of a major substation construction project.
- Manage project costs, budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
- Administer contracts and ensure compliance with contract terms and conditions.
- Prepare and review valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
- Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial risks and opportunities.
- Evaluate and negotiate variations, compensation events, and change control processes.
- Monitor subcontractor performance and manage subcontractor accounts.
- Produce accurate cost reports and commercial performance updates.
- Support project delivery teams with commercial advice and guidance.
- Work closely with project managers, planners, engineers, and client representatives.
- Ensure commercial governance and adherence to company procedures.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Proven experience working as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within major infrastructure, utilities, energy, power, transmission, or civil engineering projects.
- Strong understanding of commercial management principles and contract administration.
- Experience leading commercial activities on large-scale projects.
- Excellent cost control, forecasting, and reporting skills.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple workstreams within a fast-paced project environment.
- Proficient in commercial reporting tools and Microsoft Office applications.
