Shape the Security Systems of Britain's New High-Speed Railway
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Security Systems Engineer to join High Speed Two Ltd (HS2), providing technical leadership and engineering assurance for physical security systems across the future railway.
Working within the central engineering function, you will act as the technical authority for physical and electronic security systems, supporting the delivery and integration of security solutions across the HS2 route, stations, depots and operational infrastructure.
This is not a site-based installation role. Instead, you will operate at the heart of one of the UK's most complex infrastructure programmes, providing technical assurance, managing engineering interfaces and helping resolve challenging integration issues across multiple contracts and disciplines.
You will work closely with project managers, contractors, designers and operational stakeholders to ensure security systems are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with operational, regulatory and programme requirements.
The role offers exposure to a broad range of security technologies including:
- Access Control Systems
- CCTV & Video Management Systems (VMS)
- Intruder Detection Systems (IDS)
- Physical Security Information Management (PSIM)
- Integrated Security & Communications Infrastructure
The Role
The security requirements and standards are now largely established, and the programme is moving into a major delivery phase.
Your focus will be on ensuring security systems are successfully designed, integrated and delivered across multiple infrastructure packages while maintaining system integrity and operational performance.
A key aspect of the role will be coordinating technical interfaces between security systems, communications networks, stations, depots and route-wide infrastructure, ensuring solutions operate as a fully integrated railway system.
You will also provide technical guidance on engineering risk, change management and contractor performance, helping HS2 make informed decisions throughout delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical assurance for physical security systems throughout design and delivery
- Review contractor designs, technical submissions and engineering deliverables
- Manage interfaces between security systems and wider railway infrastructure
- Support integration activities across stations, depots and route-wide systems
- Provide technical advice on engineering risks, technical queries and change requests
- Ensure compliance with relevant standards, specifications and operational requirements
- Support suppliers and delivery teams through design, construction and commissioning phases
- Coordinate with key stakeholders including Network Rail, British Transport Police and other external organisations
- Contribute to risk management activities and support programme decision-making
- Help resolve complex technical and systems integration challenges
About You
You are likely to have experience delivering or assuring physical and electronic security systems within major infrastructure, transportation, utilities or critical national infrastructure environments.
Candidates from client organisations, consultancies, systems integrators, engineering contractors and security technology providers are all encouraged to apply.
Essential Experience
- Experience with physical and electronic security systems including Access Control, CCTV and Intruder Detection Systems
- Strong understanding of engineering assurance, design management and systems integration
- Experience reviewing contractor deliverables and technical submissions
- Experience managing technical interfaces across multidisciplinary projects
- Knowledge of engineering change control and risk management processes
- Understanding of IP-based security systems and communications networks
- Experience supporting projects through design and delivery phases
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Qualified Engineer
Desirable Experience
- Critical National Infrastructure (CNI)
- Rail, Aviation, Defence, Nuclear or Utilities sectors
- Video Management Systems (VMS) and PSIM platforms
- Experience working within major programmes or complex operational environments
- Knowledge of relevant British Standards and security industry specifications
Why Join HS2?
This is a rare opportunity to influence the design and delivery of security systems on one of the UK's most significant infrastructure programmes.
You'll work within a highly collaborative engineering environment, gain exposure to complex systems integration challenges and play a key role in delivering the operational railway.
With over a decade of programme delivery ahead and excellent opportunities for progression, HS2 offers the chance to build a long-term career while helping create infrastructure that will serve the UK for generations to come.
