TXM Recruit are working in partnership with a high-profile railway client. They are expanding and looking for a Senior Shunter - Rail to join their team located in Kettering - NN15 7HY on an initial 6-month contract. This role is paying £21 per hour.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the safe and efficient movement of all trains within the carriage sidings, ensuring compliance with railway operating procedures and safety regulations.
  • Carried out shunting operations within Kettering Sidings.
  • Acted as the site lead during shifts, overseeing day-to-day operations within the sidings, coordinating activities and ensuring work was completed safely and efficiently.
  • Liaised with Train Crew, Signallers, Maintenance Teams and other operational staff to ensure the safe coordination of train movements and depot activities.
  • Monitored site safety, reporting hazards, incidents and operational issues, while ensuring compliance with company procedures and maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Used safe radio communication protocols to coordinate train movements and operational activities.
  • Coordinated access for contractors and visitors, ensuring compliance with site safety requirements and permit-to-work procedures where applicable.
  • Maintained operational documentation, site records and shift handover reports to ensure accurate communication between teams.
  • Conducted routine inspections of the sidings, reporting defects and ensuring security, housekeeping and operational standards were always maintained.
  • Supported incident response and operational disruption management, assisting with the safe restoration of normal service following delays or operational issues.

What we require?
  • Excellent verbal communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with Train Crew, Signallers and operational teams on safety-critical matters using approved radio protocols.
  • Proven experience working in a rail operational environment, with a strong understanding of site safety, operational procedures and maintaining a safe, efficient depot or carriage siding operation.
  • Previous shunting experience, with the ability to safely carry out train movements in accordance with railway rules, local instructions and operational requirements.
  • Flexible approach to work, with the ability to work a rotating shift pattern including days, nights, weekends and bank holidays.
  • Good standard of literacy and clear communication skills, with the ability to accurately complete operational documentation and shift handovers.
  • Willingness to undertake all required training, competency assessments and role-specific certification.
  • Commitment to wearing the appropriate PPE and adhering to all health, safety and environmental procedures.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure, prioritise safety and support the efficient day-to-day operation of the site.
