Senior Site Engineer - Wastewater

We're looking for an experienced Senior Site Engineer / Senior Setting Out Engineer to join a major wastewater treatment project in Hertfordshire on a long-term contract basis.

This would suit a highly experienced engineer who still enjoys being out on site, setting out and driving delivery, rather than moving into a purely managerial role.
The project is currently progressing through demolition works, with sheet piling and enabling activities following before moving into a significant programme of deep excavations, reinforced concrete structures and multiple concurrent work fronts as delivery ramps up through 2027.

The role
You'll join an established site team and work closely with the Site Agent, taking responsibility for accurate engineering delivery across the project.
A key part of the requirement is bringing strong practical site experience into a relatively young engineering team. You won't be expected to manage the team formally, but you should be comfortable mentoring junior engineers, sharing best practice and providing technical support where required.

Typical responsibilities will include:
·Setting out for civils, excavations, structures and associated infrastructure
·Using total stations, GPS and other surveying equipment confidently
·Maintaining accurate site records, QA documentation and as-built information
·Supporting deep excavation, sheet piling and structural works
·Working closely with Site Agents, supervisors and subcontractors
·Checking drawings, levels, coordinates and engineering information
·Supporting and mentoring less experienced engineers on site
·Helping maintain safe, accurate and efficient delivery as the project ramps up

What we're looking for
Wastewater experience is essential. We're particularly interested in engineers who have previously delivered works on live or operational wastewater treatment sites.

You'll ideally have:
·Strong experience as a Site Engineer, Senior Site Engineer or Setting Out Engineer
·Previous wastewater / sewage treatment works experience
·Significant hands-on setting out experience
·Strong knowledge of civil engineering construction
·Experience around deep excavations, RC structures and temporary works
·Confidence using surveying instruments independently
·Experience working around live treatment works and operational interfaces
·The ability to mentor junior engineers without needing to move into a management position
·Exposure to ICA, mechanical or process interfaces would be advantageous
