Senior Site Manager
Location: Wolverhampton
Salary: £65,000 + Package
Sector: Construction / Facades / EWI / Render / Brick Slips
Employment Type: Permanent
The Opportunity
Hill McGlynn are currently working with an established specialist contractor who are looking to appoint an experienced Senior Site Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day management and delivery of external facade works on a major construction project.
This is a senior, hands-on management position for someone who is technically strong, commercially aware and comfortable taking ownership of a project rather than simply supervising installation teams.
The successful candidate will be expected to operate independently, identify potential issues before they impact the works and confidently represent the contractor's technical, contractual and commercial interests on site.
The Role
As Senior Site Manager, you will take responsibility for the safe, efficient and commercially controlled delivery of the facade package, managing labour, specialist subcontractors, materials, logistics, programme and quality.
You will also work closely with the Contracts Manager and commercial team to ensure instructions, variations, delays and disruption are properly identified and recorded.
Key responsibilities will include:
Taking full responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of the subcontract works.
Managing site operations, labour, specialist subcontractors, materials and logistics.
Planning, coordinating and sequencing works in line with the programme.
Identifying and challenging unrealistic programmes, restricted access and out-of-sequence working.
Monitoring productivity and identifying issues that could impact programme or commercial performance.
Maintaining accurate records covering progress, labour allocation, delays, disruption and site instructions.
Ensuring completed works meet the required specification, quality standards and contractual requirements.
Reviewing technical information and identifying design, installation or interface issues.
Recognising variations, additional works and circumstances that may create contractual entitlement.
Understanding scope boundaries and challenging instructions that fall outside the agreed works.
Maintaining contemporaneous records to support commercial submissions.
Working closely with the Contracts Manager and commercial team to protect the contractor's contractual position.
Communicating professionally and confidently with the main contractor's site, project and commercial teams.
Ensuring works are properly planned, managed and undertaken safely.
About You
We are looking for a strong, self-motivated and commercially minded Site Manager who takes ownership of their projects, communicates problems as they arise and is confident challenging technically or commercially unreasonable instructions.
You will need detailed technical knowledge of external façade systems and the ability to identify problems, challenge defective design or workmanship and propose practical, compliant solutions.
You will ideally have:
Proven experience as a Senior Site Manager or experienced Site Manager delivering external façade packages.
Strong working knowledge of External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems.
Detailed knowledge of render systems, including base coats, reinforcement, finishing coats and weather-related installation restrictions.
Experience with brick slip systems, including setting out, installation tolerances, adhesives, pointing and quality control.
Good understanding of façade interfaces, movement joints, weatherproofing and detailing.
Knowledge of manufacturer specifications, system approvals and applicable British Standards.
Experience with inspection, testing, quality assurance and defect identification.
Good commercial and contractual awareness.
The ability to recognise variations, delays, disruption and additional works.
Confidence dealing directly with main contractors and challenging instructions where required.
Strong organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
A strong understanding of construction health and safety requirements.
SMSTS certification.
Appropriate CSCS qualification.
First Aid at Work qualification would be advantageous.
What's on Offer?
Senior-level responsibility for the delivery of a substantial external façade package.
The opportunity to work autonomously and take genuine ownership of the works.
A role combining technical site management with commercial and contractual responsibility.
Salary/rate and employment package to be confirmed.
