Senior Technical Operations Technician
Surrey | £45,000–£55,000 (Indicative) | Permanent | On-site
Work on advanced automotive engineering and development projects

Are you an experienced Engineering Technician who enjoys hands-on technical work, solving problems and working with advanced engineering technology?
We're recruiting for an established engineering business operating within the automotive technology sector. The company develops and tests innovative mechanical and electrical systems, working on technically challenging projects within a dedicated engineering development environment.

This is an opportunity to join an experienced technical team supporting the development, testing and validation of complex automotive components and systems.
This isn't a repetitive production or maintenance position. You'll be involved in prototype builds, test rig setups, component inspections, technical investigations and product validation.
You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of technical activities, contribute ideas and work alongside experienced engineers on a variety of development projects.

The Role
As a Senior Technical Operations Technician, you'll play a key role in supporting engineering development, testing and validation activities.
Working closely with engineering and laboratory teams, your responsibilities will include:
•    Preparing, setting up and operating test rigs and associated laboratory equipment.
•    Carrying out mechanical and electrical assembly of prototype components and systems.
•    Stripping down assemblies before and after testing, inspecting components and identifying potential faults.
•    Supporting product development, validation testing and technical investigations.
•    Working with specialist testing equipment, potentially including dynamometers, environmental chambers and vibration testing systems.
•    Building and modifying test fixtures, jigs and prototype components.
•    Using measurement equipment and electrical diagnostic tools to investigate technical issues.
•    Recording test setups, inspection findings and results, producing accurate technical documentation.
•    Supporting engineers with fault-finding, troubleshooting and continuous improvement.
•    Taking ownership of technical activities and supporting less-experienced colleagues.
You'll be trusted to work independently, use your initiative and contribute practical solutions when challenges arise.

What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in experienced technicians who have worked in automotive engineering, motorsport, mechanical development, prototype engineering or product testing environments.
Ideally, you'll have:
•    Strong hands-on mechanical engineering skills, including precision assembly, component strip-down and inspection.
•    Experience working with test rigs, development equipment or engineering validation activities.
•    A good understanding of mechanical assemblies, engineering drawings and technical procedures.
•    Basic electrical knowledge, including using multimeters and carrying out simple diagnostic work.
•    Experience identifying faults, investigating failures and contributing to practical engineering solutions.
•    The ability to produce accurate test reports, inspection records and technical documentation.
•    A relevant engineering apprenticeship, HNC or equivalent practical experience.
•    The confidence to work independently, manage priorities and communicate with engineers and technical managers.
Experience with electric motors, powertrain systems, high-voltage components, dynamometers or environmental testing would be advantageous but isn't essential.
We would also welcome applications from candidates in other engineering industries, including aerospace, rail and specialist manufacturing, where their experience involves relevant testing, development or prototype activities.
You don't necessarily need to have held a senior job title previously. We're more interested in your technical capability, practical experience and ability to take ownership of your work.

What's on Offer?
•    £45,000–£55,000 indicative salary, dependent on experience and subject to confirmation.
•    The opportunity to work on advanced automotive engineering technology.
•    Involvement in interesting and technically challenging development projects.
•    A varied, hands-on position rather than repetitive production work.
•    Access to specialist engineering testing and development facilities.
•    An experienced, collaborative engineering team.
•    Opportunities for further training, technical development and career progression.
•    The stability of working within an established engineering business.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced technician looking to move into a technically interesting development environment where their experience, judgement and ideas will be valued.
