The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Field Service Engineer to join a growing engineering team specialising in waste and recycling equipment.
This is a highly varied field-based role, working across customer sites throughout the UK, Ireland and occasionally Europe. You will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing and repair of a wide range of recycling machinery.
The role would ideally suit an engineer with previous recycling industry experience, although engineers from other heavy industrial machinery backgrounds will also be considered where they have relevant experience across the equipment listed below.
Key Responsibilities
- Installation and commissioning of new machinery
- Customer training following installation and commissioning
- Planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and regular service visits
- Reactive breakdown and fault-finding support
- Electrical and mechanical fault diagnosis
- Decommissioning and removal of equipment
- Supporting customers with technical issues on site
- Maintaining accurate service and maintenance records
- Travelling extensively throughout the UK and Ireland, with occasional European travel
Equipment You'll Work With
Experience with recycling equipment is highly advantageous. Relevant machinery includes:
- Conveyors
- Balers
- Wrappers
- Compactors
- Shredders
- Strappers
- Tippers
- Over-band magnets
- ECS separators
Experience & Qualifications
We're looking for an engineer with a strong practical engineering background and experience working on industrial machinery.
Ideally, you will have:
- Previous experience within the waste/recycling sector
- Strong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills
- Experience installing and commissioning industrial equipment
- Experience carrying out planned and reactive maintenance
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent engineering qualification
- A willingness and ability to travel extensively
Recycling industry experience is massively advantageous, but candidates with strong experience working across the machinery/equipment listed above will also be considered.
Training & Progression
Full training will be provided where required, including IPAF training.
There is also a clear opportunity for progression, with engineers able to move into Senior Engineer positions after approximately two years, subject to performance and experience.
You will join an established engineering department of approximately 19-20 engineers, giving you the opportunity to develop your technical knowledge and progress your career within the business.
Package & Benefits
- Up to £55,000 basic salary
- £80,000+ OTE
- Overtime paid at 1.5x after 39 hours
- Sunday overtime paid at 2x
- Company van

Working Pattern & Travel
This is a predominantly day-shift field service role, working 8:00am-5:00pm.
The contracted week is 39 hours, although engineers currently average 49+ hours, providing significant opportunity to increase earnings through overtime.
Travel will primarily cover the UK and Ireland, with occasional European travel and overseas travel being relatively rare.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a hands-on engineer who enjoys working in the field, solving technical problems and dealing directly with customers.
You don't necessarily need to come from the recycling sector - strong experience working with comparable heavy industrial machinery is equally relevant. What's important is that you have the mechanical/electrical engineering ability to install, maintain, fault-find and repair complex machinery.
If you're an experienced Field Service Engineer looking for a role offering strong earning potential, extensive technical variety and genuine progression, we'd be keen to hear from you.
