We are actively recruiting a service engineer for a growing manufacturing client in Northampton. We are seeking an experience and collaborative technical engineer able to work on site and travel to client sites as required. 

Job Purpose: 

To provide technical site service on customer site as required with outstanding customer service.

You will gain experience of our test systems through testing assembled production systems ensuring quality, reliability and robustness of test systems and fixtures.

Remote / On-Site Servicing Activity for our Test Systems and Applications. The following key information applies:

  • 20-30% of your time across the year, equating to an average of 1-2 days per week out of the office, visiting customer sites
  • Manager Service calls and provide remote assistance to customers
  • Perform routine on-site servicing of test systems (including upgrade, where required) and calibration
  • Perform on-site diagnosis and repair for test systems, test applications and fixtures

Office-based Test Engineer Activity - c. 70-80% of time across the year

Your primary duties will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Undertake testing and debug responsibility for assembled test systems
  • Calibrate internal Test Equipment and customer test systems prior to shipping
  • Run Test Programs using LabVIEW™ and TestStand, plus other high-level languages where   required.
  • Support internal Manufacturing and undertake internal calibration and repair activities. Deliver/Collect Test Systems

Training Provided:

We will provide direct and 3rd party training to the successful candidate, as needed, to include the following:

  • Test System Architecture and fault finding, Instrument Calibration using LabVIEW™ and TestStand Programming, Software Installation. System Testing and diagnosis of faults.
  • Accompanied site visits initially to assist with onboarding.

Qualifications Required:

  • Formal engineering qualification in electronic engineering/electrical engineering to a minimum of HNC level - A Level (or equivalent) in at least 2 of the following: Math, Physics, IT, Electronics.

Competencies.

Essential

  • Ability to work unsupervised on customer sites performing maintenance, repair and calibration activities.
  • Methodical and possess a strong eye for detail
  • Experience in fault finding and diagnosing complex system problems to board level and beyond where required.
  • Ability to interface with customers at all levels, including the provision of training.
  • Proficient in working calmly, even in challenging situations.
  • An understanding of the importance of being the “face of the organisation” with customers.
  • A capable self-started and someone who is strongly self-motivated.
  • Willingness to travel at short notice with a need to have a flexible approach to occasional long working hours.
  • Able to travel abroad from time to time
  • A team player who is also comfortable working independently, when required.
  • Someone who understands the accountability and responsibility to meet timescales and goals for individual and team-based projects/tasks.
  • Holds a full UK or EU Drivers Licence
  • Eligible for security clearance

Desirable

  • Understanding of instrumentation control systems. LXI, GPIB, Serial, USB etc.
  • Experience of complex Test Systems, although full training will be given to the successful candidate.
  • Conversant with PC architecture and literate on all MS operating systems from Windows NT to Windows 11
