Are you a Chartered Civil or Structural Engineer with experience across flood risk, coastal infrastructure or harbour assets, looking to step into a broader leadership role?
I am currently recruiting for a Flooding, Coastal & Harbours Manager position with a Local Authority in Scotland. This is a senior role leading a specialist service responsible for flood prevention, coastal assets and harbour infrastructure, with a strong focus on driving major capital schemes through to delivery.
A key part of the role will be progressing significant flood prevention projects, including schemes with budgets of approximately £10m and £3m which are expected to move towards site next year. You will be responsible for helping drive these schemes forward, providing technical oversight, supporting design decisions and ensuring projects progress effectively into construction.
The role will also involve:
- Leading and managing the Flooding, Coastal & Harbours team
- Overseeing flood prevention, coastal and harbour infrastructure
- Managing and supporting maintenance programmes across key assets
- Providing technical input on structures such as retaining walls, culverts, bridges, seawalls and other coastal or marine assets
- Supporting strategic flood planning and the development of future flood prevention schemes
- Responding to reactive flooding issues and helping identify long-term engineering solutions
- Managing coastal assets and future maintenance requirements
- Supporting harbour safety projects and progressing compliance with the Port Marine Safety Code
- Developing and implementing safety plans and wider harbour improvement works
- Managing consultants, contractors and project delivery
- Attending public consultations and meetings
- Dealing with councillors, stakeholders and members of the public
- Providing clear technical advice in a politically sensitive Local Authority environment
They are looking for someone with a strong Civil or Structural Engineering background, ideally with experience across flood risk, coastal, marine or harbour infrastructure.
Experience across any of the following would be particularly relevant:
- Flood prevention and flood alleviation schemes
- Flood risk management
- Bridges and structural assets
- Retaining walls and flood walls
- Culverts and watercourse structures
- Seawalls and coastal defences
- Marine or harbour structures
- Coastal asset management
- Project delivery from feasibility through to construction
Previous Local Authority experience would be highly beneficial, although experienced candidates from consultancy, public-sector or infrastructure backgrounds will also be considered where they can demonstrate strong technical and project delivery experience.
Candidates must be professionally qualified / registered, ideally holding CEng, MICE, IStructE, CIWEM or equivalent professional status.
This could suit someone currently working at Senior, Principal or Manager level who is ready to take on a broader technical and leadership remit.
