We’re looking for a Sheet Metal Worker to join a busy and varied engineering environment in Newhaven, East Sussex, working within a skilled Metal Fabrication team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Sheet Metal Worker, Fabricator or Welder who enjoys practical, hands-on engineering and wants to work on a varied range of bespoke products. You’ll primarily work with stainless steel, carrying out precision sheet metal fabrication, TIG welding, finishing and high-grade polishing.
What you’ll be doing
Your role will include:
- Precision sheet metal work to fine tolerances
- Fabrication of sheet, plate and sections
- Predominantly TIG welding and finishing
- High-grade polishing of stainless steel
- Operating machinery including guillotines, press brakes, plasma cutters, saws, rollers and grinders
- Using a range of measuring equipment, including Verniers, micrometers and tapes
- Working from engineering drawings, sketches and verbal instructions
- Producing both individual components and complete product assemblies
- Working independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues
- Maintaining high standards of quality, safety and workmanship
Because the business produces bespoke, specialist equipment, no two projects are necessarily the same. You’ll need to be comfortable adapting to different products and challenges and be willing to support other areas of the business when required.
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you’ll have completed a minimum two-year apprenticeship in Metal Fabrication and have experience in sheet metal work, fabrication and welding.
However, technical experience isn't everything. We’re particularly interested in people who have a genuine passion for engineering, practical problem-solving and developing their skills.
Experience with TIG welding, stainless steel fabrication or polishing would be highly advantageous.
You’ll also need to be:
- Practical, reliable and hands-on
- Quality-focused with good attention to detail
- Comfortable working from drawings and measurements
- Flexible and willing to learn new skills
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Safety-conscious
- Willing to occasionally support site installations, other departments and overnight projects where required
A clean driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential.
Develop your skills
This role offers the opportunity to develop and broaden your engineering skills through additional training, with progression linked to your commitment, performance and success in the role.
You may also have opportunities to gain experience across other areas of the operation, including fitting, installation, machine shop, electrical, plastics and production.
