Salary: £50,000 - £60,000 DOE + Benefits
Summary
A leading Civil Engineering Contractor operating across Heavy Civils and High Voltage projects throughout the UK is looking to appoint an experienced SHEQ Manager to lead safety excellence across its nationwide operations
This is a senior, hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment and is comfortable travelling extensively throughout the UK.
As SHEQ Manager, you will oversee SHEQ performance across all projects and regions, ensuring full compliance with ISO standards and client requirements. You will develop and deliver audit programmes, lead investigations, and support the continued growth and success of the SHEQ function within the business.
Due to the nature of the role, regular nationwide travel is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership & Culture
- Lead by example, embodying the company's LIFE culture and inspiring excellence in SHEQ performance.
- Promote an environment where health, safety and wellbeing are prioritised at every level.
- Provide strong leadership, guidance and support to the wider SHEQ team across multiple projects.
- Compliance & Auditing
- Develop and deliver audit programmes across projects and throughout the business.
- Ensure compliance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards, alongside internal SHEQ procedures.
- Maintain accurate, high-quality records and prepare detailed reports for senior management and stakeholders.
- Risk, Incident & Performance Management
- Conduct and review risk assessments, RAMS and incident investigations.
- Ensure all incidents, near misses and safety concerns are reported promptly and accurately.
- Support the preservation of incident scenes and evidence where required.
- Challenge poor performance and take decisive action to address unsafe practices and improve standards across projects.
- Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with project teams, subcontractors and clients to promote safe working environments.
- Support and influence continuous improvements in environmental performance.
- Encourage workforce engagement through observation cards and open communication across all sites.
To Be Successful in This Role You Will Have
- A minimum of 10 years' experience working within SHEQ roles.
- A strong background in Civil Engineering and High Voltage infrastructure.
- Demonstrable experience managing SHEQ teams and high-risk construction projects.
- A NEBOSH qualification (or equivalent), with CMIOSH strongly preferred.
- Lead Auditor qualifications covering ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
- An environmental qualification such as IEMA.
- A strong working knowledge of ISO standards.
- A full UK driving licence.
- The flexibility to travel nationwide and work extended hours where required.
- Excellent analytical, communication, leadership and problem-solving skills.
Desirable
- TOPSET or equivalent accident investigation qualification.
- CSCS Card.
- Experience working with major DNOs and transmission clients including SPEN, National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) and SSEN.
Salary & Benefits
- Competitive salary of £50,000 - £60,000 depending on experience.
