About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Shift Operator to join a well-established organisation operating within the fuel storage and energy infrastructure sector.

Working as part of the Operations Team, you will support the Shift Supervisory Team in the safe, efficient and compliant operation of an Industrial Energy Facility.

The role involves monitoring product movements, supporting loading operations, carrying out routine inspections and responding appropriately to operational and safety issues. You will work closely with colleagues, contractors, drivers and other site users to ensure reliable and continuous terminal operations.

This is a safety-critical role within a high-hazard environment, requiring a strong commitment to health, safety, environmental and regulatory standards, including Lower-Tier COMAH requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine inspections of pipework, valves, tanks and associated terminal equipment.
  • Take and test line and tank samples against required specifications.
  • Accurately record inspection and testing results and report abnormalities or deviations.
  • Support routine operational checks, maintenance activities and site housekeeping.
  • Identify and report equipment faults, hazards and potential safety issues.
  • Support emergency response activities in accordance with site procedures and COMAH requirements.
  • Work effectively with contractors, drivers, customers and other site users.
  • Follow operational procedures, safety standards and relevant legislation at all times.
  • Complete required training and competence assessments for safety-critical activities.
  • Contribute positively to the site's safety culture and operational performance.

About You

The ideal candidate will have experience working within a process, industrial or high-hazard environment, although candidates with strong transferable operational experience may also be considered.

Essential:

  • GCSEs Grade 4–9, including English and Maths, or equivalent.
  • Relevant operational experience or qualification within a process, fuel, chemical, refinery or similar environment.
  • Good understanding of health and safety practices and safe working procedures.
  • Experience working with contractors, drivers or other site users.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a shift team.
  • Experience of working to established procedures and using maintenance management systems.
  • Awareness of relevant legislation and best practice within a process environment.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable: Emergency First Aid at Work, IOSH or similar safety qualifications.
